They get rid of all city run services pushing them on the state while the politicians retain their power...if they really wanted to save money they should have eliminated the city as well and go back to the county running things

Marwood is 96.2% latin.. interesting.

In a city of 27,000 it will save $164,000 or $7.00 per person... no beat cops here, no local fireman, who are invested in the city... bet there will be unintended consequences.. we shall see.

Leave race out of it Darryl. This has nothing to do with race. The freaking county controls most of the fire and police and EMS operations in the county already, this is nothing new down there. There will be beat cops, the contract for the deputies pays them and by default the county has to cover them no matter what. They already receive fire protection from the county from their Bell station, they have been receiving it for years.

There is no actual consequences here other than the politicians living on borrowed time in city hall. The people are pissed, the police were corrupt and abusive, and the city's activities are so screwed up that having someone else without a stake in them oversee them could be the best thing to happen to the city.

There was no judgement, just commentary...

The reality is that it is not being privatized, more like being regionalized... privatizing police and fire departments are folly..

All the rest is just idle rhetoric.

They should have just gotten rid of the city. That would have saved them a lot of money. You know... just... vaporize... the... entire... city?

You love to make broad statements and generalizations...yet another example here. I question whether you just focused on that number and the races of population and ignored the body of the article in the first place.

From the article:
Quote:
At a council meeting Monday night, city leaders said they were forced to dismantle the Police Department and lay off city workers because they lost insurance coverage as a result of excessive police claims filed against the department.
Interesting. FWIW the article DOES show a good sized demographic pie chart depicting this county as being 96.4% Latino. I mean it is what it is if ykwim.

The concept of contracted law enforcement bothers me on more than one level, even though they're supposedly coming from another city as opposed to Triple Canopy or whatever. Still I dunno; there's just a disturbing trend going on throughout the country.
