Half inclined to agree, but it's still an amazing list of sh1t we've had to fix. If I were president I'd have de-prioritized this, too. It's a shame the department ever got to such a crappy state. At least when W took office he had a functioning government.

obama has spent most of his time on the health care plan that is unpopular and mostly doesn't go into effect until his second term. He has no-one to blame but himself, not to mention he (like all Presidents) has enough advisers and assistants that "too much to do" simply doesn't work as an excuse.

I would have prioritized health care, too, only a different plan. Remember that the public overwhelmingly support health care reform in the abstract when he took office, so it was the right topic for him to work on.

As for "too much to do" there's an argument that can be made that he had to re-build practically the entire federal government in just 16 months leading up to the disaster. I'd call that "too much to do".

I'm not trying to absolve him of responsibility since the head of MMS appointed in July 1009 should have been on top of this, but I can see why this was below the executive's radar.

If the 2000-2008 claim is true, you're absolutely correct -- 1 year was under Clinton's watch. The other 8 were under Bush.

Did you pay attention until a few months ago ? I would put money that he's spent more time on the health care fiasco that on anything else.

Evidently there was something we now know about given the award that this deep water drilling company had just received.

I'm not going to get into everything I would have preferred him do - because the list is too long - but he had 16 months with his people overseeing this oil drilling situation and the disaster happened on his watch. It's his, he owns it.

You're right - he's had plenty of time to worry about an oil company lying to the government. Sure wasn't anything more important going on.
