I'd say that the BP oil spill is Obama's Katrina, except for the fact that the federal government's ineptness regarding this spill makes the Katrina response look brilliant by comparison.

People died during Katrina as a result of the lack of government response. But it's cool that Republicans now think that animals are as important as people so we can get started on solving all the environmental problems leading to species extinctions in a non-partisan way. Right? Right?
I agree. Things were much more organized back then. Here we are over a month in and the government hasn't done a darn thing to solve the problem.
I'm totally against the lack of movement by the administration on this...I think they are MORE than dropping the ball on this. I'll agree with you there.
BUsh was eating cake with McCain while people were drowning...houses flooded, and the response was fully botched. They were aware of the sitation with the levees DAYS before, you can actually watch the conference call, Bush shruggs it off.
This would be like Katrina happening on the Moon with the remoteness of this disater. There are only a handfull of subs that can get there, let alone stop this...so quit with the hyperbole for a second.
time is running out on patience, the gulf is pretty much destroyed for decades, untold marine and wildlife are now dead...and

For those criticizing Obama, it's incumbent on you to make actual, concrete suggestions on what he could be doing differently.
The fact is there is nothing Obama or the government can do.
As one of your compatriots has suggested...

What if that is the only option. Last I checked, corporations were not allowed to "Nuke things".
What about the open defiance WRT the dispersant they are using.
What about shutting off the live feed when they implement "Top Kill" tomorrow, also against what the government wants.
There are a number of reasons why the government needs to step in. Not being able to do anything is not an answer, it's an excuse. We need to people to lead, not make excuses or will Obama bow to the oil gusher as well.
