I think what we are arguing about is perception. I do not assume that Nancy meant that the students she was speaking to would be getting "public health care." Mostly because there is no "public health care" other than welfare that they might be able to collect. I think she meant that, as young adults, they could not have to worry about health insurance for a few more years because they could be covered under their parent's policies until 26 instead of being kicked out at 21 or the day they graduated college. If their parents are willing to support them for a few more years they can follow their "dream" for a bit and try their hand at writing or painting or film making. Or, if they are adults and have some money saved, they can quit their job for a year or so and not worry about health care coverage because they have a preexisting condition.
You guys automatically think "hand out" whenever health care reform is mentioned and it's simply not so.
Your own examples are destroying your argument. How exactly is Ann Rynd living at the public trough? How is Dr. Seuss living at the public trough?
Well, strictly speaking, they aren't living at all on anyone's trough. They're both dead.
And "public trough" is encompasses a larger thing than welfare. Health care reform is not welfare any more than student loans or government scholarships are welfare. They are all, however, subsidized by the government.....none of them any more so than the other.
If you've ever read your kids any of the Harry Potter books you've read them a book written by a welfare mom.
Oprah and Obama both received some form of welfare aid when they were young.
