Of late we've been seeing people who speak English subtitled if the accent is heavy. Clever Brit clip begs the question... at what point is this necessary?

Personally cannot make out a "****ney" accent, otoh cannot make out most conversations in movies whether they are foreign or american... subtitles for the SDH (how I hate that term) are my friend..

QFT. Scottish and some Irish accents can be a pain trying to understand through the heavy accents. Same goes with some Southern and Cajun accents over here(in case the Brits here think we are trying to pick on them).

I can barely make it through a movie without subtitles, they add to the scene more than they take away allowing the full dialogue to sink in and allows for subtleties that you normally would be otherwise missed to get included in the overall picture of the scene.

I can't even understand some local accents. People say the same about scousers in full swing but I guarantee if your over and you end up in Newcastle or Glasgow you will need an interpreter.

I used to think they should subtitle Shannon Sharpe on NFL Today, but then I decided that given what he probably was saying, it was best they decide to just not even bother.
