There has been hints that Haliburton, KBR, had a role in the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico... remember all those secret meetings about Energy that Richard had??? One thing coming out is that many of the regulations from before were no longer there...
If you read the whole article, Obama is doing this at the request of the commanders with boots on the ground, not to those inside the beltway..
Quote:
The no-bid work order is unusual because the Army, at the insistence of Congress, has since April 2008 put all logistics orders to bid, pitting KBR against Falls Church, Virginia-based DynCorp International Inc. and Irving, Texas-based Fluor Corp.
The Army didn’t put this work out for bids because U.S. commanders in Iraq advised against it, saying that enlisting a new company would be too disruptive as the U.S withdraws, Army program director Lee Thompson said in an interview before the Justice Department action was announced.
The view of General Ray Odierno, the U.S. military commander in Iraq, was crucial to the decision, Army Chief of Staff General George Casey told reporters today.
“Odierno said, ‘I’ve got three million pieces of equipment I’ve got to get out of Iraq, I’ve got 100 or so bases to close, I’ve got to move 80,000-plus people out of here and you want me to change horses in the middle of the stream?’” Casey recounted.

I believe this is because Haliburton and it's subsidiaries are the only companies large enough to take on projects of this scope and scale. I think this was also the case when they got the no bids in iraq. Of course, before it was just because of cheney. People that said that before now look like stupid @ssholes. Go figure.

If you read the article, it says something completely different.. know you want to believe this, actually three companies could have done it.. they did not want to switch horses midstream..
There is no defense, as Haliburton/Cheney has gotten too rich off of the American Taxpayer.. some day this whole house of fraud will be exposed.

kbr and haliburton are two different companies. what haliburton did in iraq could not have been replicated by any one company. kbr was spun off of haliburton. they do different things. i still believe haliburton was the best and only choice for the war with iraq.
