CBC News - Politics - Bill would strip terror suspects of U.S. citizenship There's really nothing to say about this other than it being about the worst thing I've ever heard. It's like people totally ignore what this country is supposed to be all about.

I've never read any article that says, "Freedom to be a terrorist..."

Habeus Corpus, dude. These are just suspects. They haven't been proven to have done anything yet, and yet Herrs Lieberman and Brown, et al, (including Pelosi) want to revoke their citizenship, possibly for nothing. The idea that you are in love with is extending unconstitutional powers to a state that is inching closer and closer to being a police state, all in the name of fighting terrorism, is appalling.

Maybe we should just be pre-emptive and put a moratorium on granting citizenship at all. Close all our borders - refuse all immigrants. No more Hispanics to swell our welfare rolls, no more Muslims to bomb our buildings, no more Canadians or Scandanavians expecting to find National Health Care. Of course there will be no more Einsteins and no more Madeleine Albrights. No more Joseph Pulitzers or Mother Cabrinis. Forget about Admirals like Hyman Rickover or authors like Rudyard Kipling. No matter, who needs 'em, right? It's not like they, or any other immigrant, ever contributed anything important.

Start tapping the phones and bugging the computers of those already here - but, hey, why stop there? Do it to those who've been born in the country as well. How much harder can it be once you've gotten started? At the first suspicious word - revoke their citizenship, too. Don't let immigrants buy guns. Don't let people who've become citizens buy guns. Don't let the children of naturalized citizens buy guns. Or their aunts or uncles or cousins, either. Family ties run deep - can't be too careful. Start eliminating their friends, too. You never know who's going to loan a friend a firearm.

Think of the criminals we could catch - crimes, even crimes of terrorism,aren't solely the baliwick of newcomers, yanno. Why suspect only foreigners when you can suspect everyone? Wouldn't that make even more sense? The broader you cast your net the more fish you pull in at the end of the day.

There are also some due process issues, we can't even figure out how to try the dudes in Guantanamo.. now we want to take away their citizenship, to what end?? So everyone can feel better... just more crap to clog up courts..

Cool heads need to prevail, not just and knee jerk reaction..

I'm not familiar with the old law they are referring to. I'll say that I do like the general intent of the proposal. I'm not so sure I like the idea of stripping "suspects" of their citizenship. Convicted terrorists I'd be open to.

I'd have to learn more about the specifics before offering a thumbs up, or thumbs down. I will say that the dude they recently arrested, the Pakastani who just got his citizenship last year, should have his revoked ASAP. In cases like that, count me in as a yes.
