I think most liberals want government and religion to be separate.

It's "conservatives" who typically support laws based on religious beliefs, so perhaps your question is better directed at them.

Depends how you define this separation. Constitution only forbids the establishment of a state-run religion and forbids the government from infringing on religious freedom. It does not preclude the government being influenced by religion (as Thomas Jefferson's later writings explained...)

Actually, I think the language just says "establishment of religion" -- which is more vague (intentionally?) than "state run."

(There's no way government can be prevented from being influenced by religion until people aren't influenced by religion, for better or worse.)

Well, here's a nice thought for all civilized societies...

Islam will never become a dominant or even a significant religion in any advanced society....Anyone who follows a religion with such strict, ancient rules and laws is wishing for society to go backwards...and that mis amigos aint a happenin'!!!

Islam is doomed & allah and mohammed (if I could draw a cartoon here, I would!) are sinking ships.....

You don't tell the muslims to seperate church and state if you try you die, that was my point, I can't understand the liberal love affair with Islam, the Muslim Religion seems to be against everything the liberal believes.
