The Latin-Americans have their own financial system in place if they need it. It's not quite loan sharking but it's not quite market rates either. I know a few who make a handsome living off it. The predator and prey thing is way stronger than some of the stuff that's commented in this forum regarding our financial system.
It's accepted practice though ... the cost of doing business. Seems like highway robbery ... but when you don't pay income tax ... well ... there's enough to work with there and keep many people happy.

The Democrat-controlled Massachusetts House came within a razor-thin margin yesterday of advancing a Republican proposal to block public benefits for illegal immigrants, a reversal from last year when opponents easily torpedoed the measure.
Both sides said the unexpectedly close 75-82 vote reflected growing support for efforts to crack down on illegal immigration in Massachusetts, sparked by the recent passage of a stringent law in Arizona and frustration with stalled congressional efforts to overhaul the immigration system.
Perry’s measure, which the Sandwich Republican tried to add as an amendment to the House budget, would have required anyone receiving public benefits to be verified first by the Federal Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlement program, or SAVE. Perry said his goal is to prevent illegal immigrants from gaining access to public housing, unemployment benefits, welfare, or workers compensation. He said lawmakers are concerned, in another tight budget year, about the cost of such benefits for illegal immigrants.

Maybe I should have stated it differently. No one here illegally should LEGALLY be able to own a home in the USA. Now that's just common sense based upon the fact that criminals shouldn't be home owners and ILLEGAL ALIENS should't be able to be residents. And also, banks shouldn't give criminals loans either if they do their due-dilegance...which I truly hope they are now doing on a regular basis.
Personally, I think we could impose all sorts of LOGICAL laws designed at preventing people here illegally from finding a residence of their own.
Let's make it illegal to rent to immigrants who are here illegally...why not? And if we already have such laws, for the love of God, let's start enforcing them!!! HELLO??
Right, but that pesky Innocent before proven guilty thing gets in the way of an illegal alien requesting a mortgage but has not yet been tried and found guilty.
FYI, NYC is full of buildings and homes owned by Foreigners... Just as if you wanted to buy a flat in London, you can.
IF the bank wants to make a bad investment they should be able too, all they need to do is ask for their proof of citizenship. However if the bank wants to invest poorly, they should be allowed too.

No, a bank should not be able to willing break the law as stated here....

So I would have to say in this case, you're wrong.
Sure, a foreigner can purchase property here, but they can't RESIDE here unless they go through proper channels. And when you think about, that's not asking much at all. Same as any other country.
For those who choose to close their eyes, the world has no borders or laws restricting travel from one country to the next. But the REALITY is, there ARE laws and borders and one should NOT be able to go or live wherever they choose, whenever they choose.

Works for me. And as soon as banks and mortgage companies quit making bad loans or illegal loans in an effort to make money in any way possible, regardless of any conquences or in spite of any laws they may be violating by doing so then maybe it'll happen.
Forget all this yippity-yappn' about starting with companies that hire illegal ALIENS. Let's just start at the fluckn' fence and stop the criminals from coming in!
