Developing Story: Second drilling rig overturns in Louisiana | Reuters

(Reuters) - The U.S. Coast Guard said Friday it was responding to another oil drilling rig accident near Morgan City, Louisiana.

The "mobile inland drilling unit" overturned in the Charenton navigational channel south of U.S. Highway 90 at Morgan City.

Alternatives? Clearly that's just liberal crazy talk. All energy sources have problems, except oil and coal.

Nuke power has the chance of Chernobyl or Three Mile Island happening again. The hell with safety improvements and stricter regulations that make those happening all but impossible

Wind power has the chance that some poor unfortunate upper class person has to find a different route for their yacht

Solar power requires wide open uninhabited spaces but might cause shadows that shade a jackrabbit

Alternatives could be done, but opposition or the threat of opposition kills any potential project in its tracks.


And that's just the potential "liberal" arguments...that doesn't even counter the oil, coal, and auto industry arguments. If they wanted or allowed for the realistic potential for change there would be change.

In any case, maybe the better government stimulus plan would have been to set up the infrastructure to accommodate electric cars like they're proposing in Israel and Denmark. Those are small countries, granted, but even setting up the infrastructure in a small, but highly populated (and generally receptive to this kind of idea) area such as within the "BosWash corridor" might be of use. I can already hear the excuses, though, prepared and distributed by our friends in the oil trust.

By the way, I am sick and effing tired of people saying countries are different sizes which explains everything about how we let our infrastructure crumble. Heard that one on fast-speed trains too.

China's about our geographic size, has four times our population, and is getting ahead of us on renewables. That oughtta make us think. Or better yet, act.
