you don't need to go anywhere fancy in NO for good chow. I think my last vist included Felix's, Jacques-Imos and the Napoleon House, all if which are casual but great.
Re subs, always skeptical of chains, but I've never been to a firehouse. If any of you are ever in LA, I highly recommend Bay Cities -- an Italian deli in Santa Monica. Great freshbaked bread throughout the day, excellent pepper "relish" (hot or mild) and good Italian dressing for their subs if you desire.

Firehouse subs was a small chain started in this area, and it just exploded into GA, AL, and other areas...
Everyone that comes and visits and we feel like grabbing a sub walks away with saying it's the best they have ever had... When I first moved here, and I had one, I was stuck on them for 10lbs...
