Default Louisiana Gov declares state of emergency

Due to the oil spill. Apparently weather reports indicate winds could cause the spill to move eastward, affecting coasts including that of Louisiana and the already suffering state of Missouri. Tourism is predicted to become heavily affected too. Predicted oil loss around 5,000 barrels a day. FOXNews.com - Coast Guard Says Gulf Oil Spill Could Make Landfall Friday

How does one do a cost/benefit analysis on THIS? In 40 days, at the present rate of leaking, this disaster will equal the Exxon Valdez in sheer volume of spilled oil, but will far surpass it in terms of environmental destruction, economic impact and cleanup cost. Ay least the Valdez spilled in an Arctic harbor. The Gulf of Mexico is tropical with a much more diverse ecosystem that has already been beaten up by pollution from the Mississippi discharge and other dumpings and spills.

I think someone was worried about the impact of Cape Wind on the environment and fishermen...kinda sounds silly compared to this.

DRILL, BABY... DRILL!

Soon we'll be seeing this on the news for a long time, or until corporate comes down on their News outlets.

i like the idea of setting the oil slick on fire, it can't hurt to try it anyways. I forgot thought of the idea first.

Only works where the slick is thick enough.

There are 2 hatching grounds for the Atlantic Bluefin. One of them is right in the middle of the disaster area. The fish is already nearing extinction, and one hopes this doesn't push it over the edge.

Will BP be held reasonably accountable for this disaster? Somehow I doubt it.

Wait, I thought you guys wanted the federal government to not respond to things like this? Personal accountability and pulling yourself up by your bootstraps and all? Isn't the federal government supposed to sit on its ass in cases like this according to the modern Republican party? Oops.
