I heard Brent Bozell on the G. Gordon Liddy Show. Bozell said the media (not counting Fox) covered the White House party crashers 57 times, but the climategate leaked emails only twice, and that weeks late and in a manner only to disparage it.
Hmm. It's just not how an issue is covered, it's what's being covered. That's the biggest censorship question I've had for several decades now.
One of the worst cases is the Boston Fed study purportedly showing widespread racial discrimination in mortgage lending--the study did nothing of the kind, it didn't take into account work history, credit ratings--the media bought it and promulgated it hook line and sinker.
The book [Stephen Hunter's wickedly good Sniper] was a good read but I'm not here to review the book. Instead, I want to point out something Hunter writes in this book which brilliantly illustrates exactly what is wrong with the mainstream media. On page 183, Hunter writes about "the narrative" - the foundational story that drives ideologies. First off, Hunter defines the idea of narrative - the foundational beliefs that the media holds:
The narrative is the set of assumptions the press believes in, possibly without even knowing that it believes in them. It's not like they get together every morning and decide 'These are the lies we tell today.' No, that would be too crude and honest. Rather, it's a set of casual, nonrigorous assumptions about a reality they've never really experienced that's arranged in such a way as to reinforce their best and most ideal presumptions about themselves and their importance to the system and the way they've chosen to live their lives. It's a way of arranging things a certain way that they all believe in without ever really addressing carefully. It permeates their whole culture.
Meh - they're all in the same boat - "conservative", "liberal" media, whatever. When Bush was in office, FOX and "conservative" talk radio were licking Bush and Cheney's boots, while Olbermann and MSNBC were being attack dogs on the contrary. Now that Obama's in office, Olbermann and CNN are all of a sudden licking Obama's boots, while FOX and Rush Limbaugh are being the attack dogs.
Brent Bozell's been no different - not once has this man called out the globalist Iraq war when Bush was in office, but now is all of a sudden criticizing the "liberal media" now that Obama's in office?
BTW -Rupert Murdoch's pastor is RICK WARREN - that itself raises a red flag.
