Ben Franklin isn't a precise analogy, but there are certainly similarities. Both men were womanizers and both men had an illegitimate child. Franklin was certainly a greater person in our history than John Edwards, but he can still be used to make my point. I like John Edwards for his political views; I like Ben Franklin for being a brilliant polymath; I like Bill Clinton for doing a good job running the country; and you know something I liked Tom DeLay for his hardboiled, union boss like tactics -- I hated his politics, but I really liked his toughness.

I think there were no posts because this kind of behavior is expected of liberals. Hence the name liberal. I truly believe that conservatives get more press for behavior like this because they are still trying to promote family values. I think promoting family values is good as long you can walk the walk.

True that, but in Edwards' case I think the continual denials and lies are what put the final nail in his political coffin. In general I agree though, conservative politicians who run on a platform of moral values and the sanctity of marriage better practice what they preach lest they add hypocrisy to their sins.

I would argue it's the opposite, except that liberals accept some types of behavior that many conservatives do not. For instance, if you consider premarital sex a bad behavior, then there is a good chance that liberals engage in that more. On the other hand if you consider corporal punishment a bad behavior, there's a good chance that conservatives engage in that more. However, when it comes to bad behaviors based on dishonesty, such as adultery, I would think that people who are repressed or restricted by their religious beliefs are more likely to engage in that kind of behavior. If a liberal marriage is in trouble, the couple is I think more likely to divorce or seek counseling (something many conservative frown upon). Conservatives talk conservative family values and liberal talk liberal family values. To me the phrase "family values" is simply a political slogan that means different things to different people.

We could ask our current prez the same thing But joking aside, read what Edwards had to say about Halliburton, Libya, Iran; he attacked Cheney and cited Enron/Ken Ley-it's a great read, the commentator wished Edwards had gone into more depth about it.
