The Canadian Press: Oscar-winning US filmmaker Oliver Stone says Adolf Hitler was 'enabled by Western bankers'

BANGKOK, Thailand — Adolf Hitler was a psychopath and a monster but rose to power thanks to big business leaders and other supporters who appreciated his vow to destroy communism and control workers, Hollywood filmmaker Oliver Stone said Monday.

Stone, who is working on a 10-part documentary on the 20th century titled "The Secret History of the United States," said the German dictator was "enabled by Western bankers" and managed to "seduce" Germany's military industrial complex.

"Hitler is a monster. There is no question. I have no empathy for Hitler at all. He was a crazy psychopath," Stone told reporters in the Thai capital. "But like Frankenstein was a monster, there was a Dr. Frankenstein. He is product of his era."

Stone is just another guy who truly loves his country!

Who would want to watch his documentary anyway? My guess is that Mr Stone would love for us to become even more socialist than most Eurpean countries...it's so funny (ha ha) that so many in Hollywood seem to want socialism while they rake in millions....

Guess no one read the article and the comments of Stone, just the atypical knee jerk reaction of the right.. reminds me of pavlov, substitute the bell for anything that is perceived as left...

Anything that makes you think is unpartiotic... therefore be a lemming and believe all that is written in the history books..


Reminds me of how people cringe when there is discussion about Pius XII and his turning a blind eye on the Nazi Death Camps.. it is what it is, money talks and the rest of us walk...

Didn't know anyone outside the Nazis were aware of the concentration camps Hitler had. They heard rumors but I didn't think anyone had solid evidence. American troops sure didn't know about them, judging frm their reaction when they discovered them.
So, how could Pius have known about it?

It is very common knowledge that Pius XII and the Catholic Church turned a blind eye to the holocaust and the suffering of the Jews.. unfortunately it is painted as some type of German Conspiracy..

Surely, you don't think Pius advocated such barbarity such as he was hearing of from people who may or may not have been there as far as he knew. As I said, Hitlers concentration camps were not common knowledge
at the time they were operating.
More likely that he was protecting the Vatican.
After all, Mussolini was Hitlers buddy.

363839, you have have a point. The extent of German atrocities was not fully (publicly) known until after the war, particularly the apparatus of the death camps. The United States did know, and in fact had actual meetings on whether to bomb the camps themselves, or at the least, the rail lines to the camps. The decision was made that all military efforts needed to be directed to various military targets (German population centers, for example.) At any rate, the point here is not to re-hash whether that decision was right or wrong; the point is that at the leadership level, we had an idea of how horrific the scale of Hitler's crimes was.

As to what was publicly known, from very early on Hitler's antisemitism, and the actions of Germany and German-occupied territories as regards Jews, was well known. Massive pogroms were well-known to be occuring; krystallnacht alone marks the Nazis as beyond the pale, and that was a very early occurence. Hitler's "race laws" are another clear example. The stripping of citizenship from German Jews, and the confiscation of their property--that is, all real property of every member of this group--all happened well prior to the outbreak of war. Much more had happened, and was publicly known, than one can excuse complicity in.

There are two parts to the story. One is the collusion and contented support of German industrialists for Hitler's Germany. This is why it's so comical to see the usual lemmings trying to paint Hitler as a Socialist. The Nazis had running street battles with the Socialists before they seized power, for Christ's sake.

The second part is the interwoven nature of the industrial world, and the amoral imperative of the profit motive. There's an interesting book, "IBM and the Holocaust," I believe is the title. I know the author is Edwin Black. You guys should read it... not to hate on IBM, but to see exactly how deep in the memory hole we all are. IBM was actually a pretty vocal supporter of the Nazis pre-war. The firm's owner actually was given a nice shiny medal by der fuehrer for his part in building the reich.

Dehomag was the IBM German subsidiary; once the war was on, for everybody's sake, IBM span off the company, but the companies remained interconnected throughout the war. The old punch-card machines were ultimately incredibly important for the logistics of the final solution; they were shipped from camp to camp, and dutifully kept in working condition even when similar units supporting the front were dropping "offline."

And so on. That's not a "blame America" point, and it's not a "blame Capitalilsm" point. It is what it is. These corporations can't consider a damn thing other than profits. Hell, they can be sued for fiduciary breech in some cases if they do. You guys really need to wake up to that. They're not your friends. They exist for the good of their shareholders. Period. If they happen to benefit you that is good and well; but you must be aware that they have no interest in doing so, except to the extent they have to to take your money. In this most recent economic turn, they managed to simply get the money without producing any product; in fact, they used your money to make the profit, then lost your money, then used more of your money in the form of taxes to recover.

But that's now, this was then, right? I am sure attitudes ran the gamut across industries and firms, but the third reich was a business opportunity for many, the mechanics of the Holocaust included.

You'd be an idiot to think Western industrialists did not prefer him to the Bolshevik threat, and an even bigger one to think they had no part in his rise to power or his darkest abuses thereof.
