Default The past week

I take a week's vacation, and the country becomes a mess! Jeez.

Anyway, as a hopeless optimist, the way I look at the Scott Brown victory is that it's a wake up call to the Obama administration in time to avert a bigger disaster next November. Obama is right to do battle with Wall Street, even though Wall Street will fight back. He should have launched that battle a long time ago, rather than submit to the economic blackmail that led Bush and Obama to engage in corporate bailouts.

The activist Supreme Court handed Obama a bipartisan plum with it's ridiculous ruling that corporations are people too, especially during a period when there is very little trust for corporations. I hope the Democrats seize this opportunity. Lastly, on health care, the Democrats should use Reconciliation to ram through something that is more principled then the current health care reform package. I think once a health care reform package is passed, the health insurance industry will have no choice to market its benefits to the public.

BTW, reconciliation is only for budgetary items, they can't "ram through" many of the parts of the bills (like mandatory health insurance) - not without an elongated legal fight anyway.

I don't think that's what will happen. The reality is that the vast majority of people will only see additional benefits. Many of the people without health insurance don't have it because they cannot get it or cannot afford it. Health care reform is a first step in that these people, who frequent emergency rooms and free clinics (often when they're extremely ill) will actually start paying for their services. No more handouts for them! And quite a savings if they get early treatment or pay more than they're paying now.

I suspect there's a very small number of people who do not want insurance and can afford it. They are sure to vote against the Democrats.

Otherwise, I think the conservatives only have scare tactics, mostly unrelated to the HCR.

Progressives want good change for America.

Conservatives use scare tactics to keep the status quo.

Because change in the mind of progressive always involves wealth redistribution

... which in turn leads to higher taxes and strains on businesses.

... which in turns leads to unemployment and business moves
to other countries to stay competitive on a global scale.

Progressives theories need to be applied to the realities of the global economy
... not to the unrealistic vacuum that is the USA economy.

The scientific principal of to every action there is an equal and opposite reaction also applies to the economy
- progressives have yet o see the correlation there.

There's a fine line between optimism and foolish naivete. If you think this epic defeat for the left could actually help them in November, then you crossed that line a couple thousand miles back.

This from a guy who supports the MASJC ruling that interpreted a 200+ year old document as saying homosexuals should be allowed to marry. Ah, where's JackBauer when I really need him? Because we have Patters providing a textbook case of my definition of "judicial activism" right here.

Actually it's more like liberals are always taking a system that isn't broke and "fixing" it into something worse.
