Re: Where's Dracula???
obama had a chance to be a greatly popular president had he been what he advertised himself as. He still does if he cuts out the partisan craziness. If he's smart he will get a stripped down healthcare bill passed that helps cut costs. Once that is done then he can work on getting some help for the uninsured. But you can't help the uninsured without it costing money until you lower costs.
To lower costs he can include tort reform in the bill. He can encourage competition not only by allowing insurance across state lines but also but lowering regulation on what has to be covered. My single, male, friend at work, for example, has maternity coverage on his health insurance. I'm guessing he doesn't need it. I'm fine with mandating everyone buy health insurance so they're covered for the unexpected but there has to be a catastrophe only option; and that's what the poor can get help for also. I supposedly have all this choice, I actually have almost no choice because of all the mandates and regulation and I'm typical. Health insurance should be like car insurance, you have to get a small minimum so you aren't a burden (like the mandatory liability if you damage someone else's property) but comprehensive is up to you.
