OPM Authorizes Federal Departments to Solicit for Haiti Relief

Basically this is (I think) non-controversial. It's just OPM authorizing departments to allow you to give from your paycheck (the "CFC procedures" noted in the press release.) Paycheck deduction is staggeringly effective, by the way, because it encourages (for example) 10 bucks per paycheck so you can give 260 bucks even if you know for a fact you'd never write a check for more than 20 bucks b/c you're struggling. That's the normal procedure for CFC charities; it talks about a "one-time" solicitation, so I'm not sure whether you could elect a deduction on a biweekly basis. I think probably you could.

So there it is. As I said, I don't see it as enormously controversial.

It's just a charitable option, it seems relatively irrelevant to me vs. however else you choose to donate to the charity of your choice.

Personally I think you're better off spending the $20 on either charities to help Americans or buying American made products. But I'm more interested in Americans than Haitians.
