Yes I have a 10 year old car. I do have insurance but as I own it outright I don't have to have anything but liability - I don't have to insure my car, I just have to insure myself against hurting others.

Thats what i meant. After ten years i would hope you own it out right.

Yeah, I just get tired of this "auto insurance is mandatory" when it's really not. I get that the analogy fails because it my uninsured car loses it's transmission then the I, alone, pay for it whereas if I have no health insurance and have a heart attack then I, alone, do not pay for it. So to say : I don't have to insure my car therefore I don't have to insure my health doesn't work. But it also doesn't work to say that it's mandatory to insure your car.
