This isn't especially rare. Over the summer, Rep. Wally Herger (R) of California held a town-hall event, and heard from a constituent who described himself as "a proud right-wing terrorist." The Republican congressman replied with a broad smile, "Amen, God bless you. There is a great American."

You realize, of course, that this establishes only that the hysteric tone of the rabid right fringe is being embraced by the former "center"-right?

And the people that protested with posters of President George W Bush as Hitler.. Where do they fall on the political spectrum????? The lunacy spreads across the political landscape with no one ideology holding a monopoly.

These are not random fruitcake extremists at a rally being quoted here - these are elected officials. One would think they would expect to carry more weight and influence than a nameless protestor with a sign at a rally and would act accordingly.

Yeah those guys were fringe freaks too. But they didn't have their own "major network" and their own political party. As the Mrs. says, the "center" of the Republican party are now competing to be mouthpieces for the tea baggers, and the tea baggers themselves are schisming over the question of GOP affiliation.
