Default A sad Christmas

Retail Sales Plummet - WSJ.com

Quote:
Price-slashing failed to rescue a bleak holiday season for beleaguered retailers, as sales plunged across most categories on shrinking consumer spending, according to new data released Thursday.

Despite a flurry of last-minute shoppers lured by the deep discounts, total retail sales, excluding automobiles, fell over the year-earlier period by 5.5% in November and 8% in December through Christmas Eve, according to MasterCard Inc.'s SpendingPulse unit.

When gasoline sales are excluded, the fall in overall retail sales is more modest: a 2.5% drop in November and a 4% decline in December. A 40% drop in gasoline prices over the year-earlier period contributed to the sharp decline in total sales.

How do you expect people to spend money when they dont have a job?

Instead of wasting 2T dollars for bankrupted companies, everybody in US can have a 5000 dollar check to spend for Christmas.

It's what it's because you VOTED for it. Saying it doesn't solve any problem or make you feel better.

If you give a $5,000 check to a jobless person chances are they aren't going to spend it on Christmas - they're going to spend it on food, rent and health care.

If you give the bankrupted companies money they can starve off bankruptcy and stay open - and their employees stay employed - thus preventing how many more people from needing a yearly $5,000 check from the government to pay for food, rent and health care - for years to come.

Why is our unemployment rate still high after Obama gave these bankrupted companies money?

Gas prices were much lower last year...
Thanks for playing

An article from 2009

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/12/12/bu...my/12econ.html
Retail Data Shows Strong Start to Holiday Season

A strong start to the holiday shopping season pushed retail sales higher in November, the government reported on Friday, propelling stock prices near their recent highs…………….
In retailers as diverse as health stores and electronics boutiques, sales rose 1.3 percent last month from October, nearly twice the gain economists had expected.

Taken from the conservative playbook, outdated articles.. that is what you get when you google Obama bad, and do not check the dates...

You don't "starve off" bankruptcy. You stave off bankruptcy.

This has been a public service announcement.
