Default Cuba cracks down on free speech

The Human Rights Group of Cuba released copies of government files on Wednesday that illustrate the extent to which the Cuban government has gone to compile information on Cubans suspected of being threats simply for expressing controversial opinions.

Two documents relating to anti-government protests, and a vegan rally, prove the government has been "spying" on Cubans, the Human Rights Group said.

For example, more than two dozen government surveillance photographs show 22-year-old Frida Rojas of Havana, a strict vegetarian, and other vegans picketing against meat eating, in December 2003. They staged their protest outside a Havana food packing plant.

An undercover Cuban agent was assigned to conduct surveillance of the protest and the protestors, and take the photographs. The agent arrested Rojas and another protester after he saw Rojas approach him and write down, on a piece of paper, the license plate number of his unmarked government car.

Actually, Boy, Castro has held power for over 45 years with the same government. I think that might classify him as a hard-core conservative. His sucessor, if he or she begins radical reforms and opens up the country will be seen as a radical liberal from a Cuban perspective.

It's all how you look at it.

Castro's "Useful Idiots" (Lenin's term) include Warren Buffet, half of Hollywood and Jimmy Carter. Here's a few highlights, to save time I surmise, America=bad, Castro=good

Here's some quotes:

Viva Fidel! Viva Che! Castro is the most honest and courageous politician I've ever met." Jesse Jackson

Meeting Fidel Castro were the eight most important hours of my life." Steven Spielberg.

"Very selfless and moral. One of the world's wisest men." Oliver Stone

"Cuba's Elvis." Dan Rather

"A Dream come true." Supermodel Naomi Campbell

"Socialism works. I think Cuba can prove that." Chevy Chase

"Castro is an extraordinary man. He is warm and understanding and seems extremely humane." Gina Lollobrigida

None of these latter day useful idiots, as Lenin would have called them, are either ignorant of, or willing to ignore the real nature of Fidel Castro, this "extremely humane" dictator who stands once again exposed as the American-hating, homicidal communist brute he is in a remarkable new book, "Fidel – Hollywood's Favorite Tyrant." (Regnery Publishing, 256 pgs.)

Harry's posts seems to ring quite true doesn't it?

I edited the article to claim it was Castro. Actually, it's Homeland Security in Georgia! Read the article. We agree, Bush is cracking down on free speech!

hmmm, I was wondering where exactly a vegan came from in Cuba.

1. Exactly how did they "crack down on free speech". I didnt see any reference to how the Vegans didn't get their chance to promulgate their opinions. Care to explain how being watched in a public place is somehow eliminating your right to uhhh hang around in a public place?

2. Exactly how is this "spying". As far as I could tell it referenced 3 or 4 agencies; the FBI, the local police departments and a homeland securtiy bureau. Last I heard all these agencies are charged with enforcing US laws.

2a. Judging by most "PROGRESSIVE" demonstrations they tend to feature a whole bunch of people who like to violate the law by becoming violent. Can you name the last Anti-WTO rally that didnt involve masked thugs throwing rocks through windows? We just had a bunch of PETA & environmental nuts out west who were out burning down buildings and defacing SUVs - arent' those crimes worth paying attention to?

2b. Law organizations have always kept loose tabs on organizations which can spawn an assasin type. How do you know someone from this group hasnt been writing threats to the president. That would be a legitimate reason to surveil them.

2c. None of these organizations are "spy" organizations that are prohibited from watching americans. None of these guys are the CIA or the NSA or the DIA.

3. Even if you actually believe this is crackdown on free speech; HOW EXACTLY DO YOU TRACE THIS TO BUSH, the FEDERAL GOVT, the PATRIOT ACT or any other change in federal govt since 2000????
