I think the rise of militias is mostly due to prejudice, since I believe these militias consist of almost only white guys who fear Obama because he's (1) black, (2) "Muslim," (3) "foreign born." Of course, among these militias are those who fear economic collapse because of Obama's "socialist" policies and those who are your run-of-the-mill survivalists. But, the driving factor behind these militias is the increasing marginalization of white men. They once ruled society, now they risk becoming mere equals and that's a real head trip for them.
At least 50 new right-wing militia groups have been identified by the Montgomery, Ala.-based Southern Poverty Law Center, a nonprofit civil rights organization. All have formed within the last two years, many spreading their speeches and combat exercises on YouTube.

They're back. Almost a decade after largely disappearing from public view, right-wing militias, ideologically driven tax defiers and sovereign citizens are appearing in large numbers around the country. "Paper terrorism" — the use of property liens and citizens' "courts" to harass enemies — is on the rise. And once-popular militia conspiracy theories are making the rounds again, this time accompanied by nativist theories about secret Mexican plans to "reconquer" the American Southwest. One law enforcement agency has found 50 new militia training groups — one of them made up of present and former police officers and soldiers. Authorities around the country are reporting a worrying uptick in Patriot activities and propaganda. "This is the most significant growth we've seen in 10 to 12 years," says one. "All it's lacking is a spark. I think it's only a matter of time before you see threats and violence."

Any grass roots movements against this government are because it's the most radical, leftist government the country has ever seen. It's not because obama is half black, it's because he's a nut job.

How did you possibly read that into anything anyone posted. Not all conservatives are racist, but the fringe conservatives are sometimes racist and are joining extremist groups. Are you trying to defend them?
The right wing, rather than criticize its extremist elements seems to apologize for them. Conservatives need to show the same guts that Democrats showed under JFK/LBJ, when they threw out the racist Dixiecrats (who Ronnie Reagan quickly rounded up). Republicans have shown a lack of integrity in confronting the right-wing extremists in their own backyard. Liberals have, over the last 40 years, thrown out not only right-wingers, but also Communists and other far left elements.

I think conservatives need to grow a couple and start standing up to extremists in their own ranks.
