Gee, who didn't see this coming?
Looks like it took a substantial bribe for Democrat Mary Landrieu's vote.
It's not how much the federal government pays Mary Landrieu's state. It's how much private interests pay Mary Landrieu.
According to this link, she has raised $1,668,693 from the health care industry over her political career. I guess the government has to match every $1.67 that private interests donate to her with $1,000 in federal money to aid her constituents in order to trigger her sense of duty as a public servant. She's probably still holding out for more. http://www.campaignmoney.org/healthcare/landrieu
I said many years ago ,Corporate Lobbying Activity in American Politics was not good for the country .

Right, coz we all know there's no corruption, favors or buying of votes at the state level. Just look at Illinois, for instance. Model state government, that, yes?
Keep pushing it down as low as you can. You'll have less waste. There is no reason for us to send this crazy amount of money to Washington only to have them divvy it up based on bribes and threats.

Hmmmmm.......What was the name of the lone Republican who voted in favor of the Healthcare house bill?
Congressman Joseph Kao, right? I think that's right. Yes, Joseph Kao.
Let's see, where was he from again?
Oh wait!! I remember!!!
Louisiana!!
What an amazing coincidence!! I'm surprised you didn't mention it, ljuneau, you're usually so precise about things.
I could not find anything indicating that he was bribed for his vote. His statement was:
Quote:
“I have always said that I would put aside partisan wrangling to do the business of the people. My vote tonight was based on my priority of doing what is best for my constituents,” he said in a statement after the vote.
I certainly don't agree with his vote. However, IF his constituents actually did want him to vote yea, then I can understand. Too many politians ignore the will of the people who voted them into office.
But, if it is found that he was "bribed", like Mary Landrieu was, then frankly he can go to he**.

It's not how much the federal government pays Mary Landrieu's state. It's how much private interests pay Mary Landrieu.
And how much they pay everyone else, too.
The [health care sector] gave nearly $170 million to federal lawmakers in 2007 and 2008, with 54 percent going to Democrats, according to data compiled by the Center for Responsive Politics, which tracks money in politics. The shift in parties was even more pronounced during the first three months of this year, when Democrats collected 60 percent of the $5.4 million donated by health-care companies and their employees, the data show.
Many of these contributions have been focused on Baucus, Charles E. Grassley (R-Iowa) and other senators in the moderate camps of their respective parties, whose votes could prove crucial in a final health-care reform deal, as well as the leaders of five key committees leading the debate. Grassley, the Finance Committee's ranking Republican, received more than $2 million from the health and insurance sectors since 2003. House Ways and Means Chairman Charles B. Rangel (D-N.Y.) took in $1.6 million from the health sector and its employees over the past two years; ranking Republican Dave Camp (Mich.) received nearly $1 million.
But Baucus, a senator from a sparsely populated and conservative Western state who is serving his sixth term, stands out for the rising tide of health-care contributions to his campaign committee, Friends of Max Baucus, and his political-action committee, Glacier PAC. Baucus collected $3 million from the health and insurance sectors from 2003 to 2008, about 20 percent of the total, data show. Less than 10 percent of the money came from Montana.
The point is, Juneau, the health care industry is giving money to the people they still want to buy - not necessarily the ones they've already bought. For many years they gave most of their contributions to Republicans - that only changed this past 18 months or so.
Should the Dems in question be taking it? No, of course not, and neither should The Republicans have taken it in the past either. (Were you aware of all the money they donated to McCain during his election bid?)
But it's ludicrous of you to be outraged that proponants of health care reform are offering appeasement to one (possibly two) senators from Lousiana when, in fact, the opponents of health care reform are pouring millions into the coffers of everyone.

Where does it say that the bill was written as a bribe for Mary Landrieu? It benefits a particular state not a particular person - both Ladrieu and Koe are from Louisiana - either it's a "bribe" for both or it's a bribe for neither.

LOL, nice try Mrs. P.

Good to hear you think even if it is not very effective.
In the case of the ABA it is what is NOT in the bill that is the payoff for the many millions donated to the dems, NOTHING about TORT REFORM. This is worth billions to the Trial Lawyers.
In the case of AARP they got $18 million from the stimulus (ie pork ) bill now a prominent part of both the Reid and Pelosi bill is the cuts to the medicare advantage program that will drive seniors to medigap policies that are a main source of income for the AARP. Government eliminates the competition a feature of national socialist economic policies.
Billions for AARP.
for the AMA
Quote:
The American Medical Association (AMA) was facing a 21 percent cut in physicians' reimbursements under the current law. Obama promised to kill the cut if they backed his bill. The cuts are the fruit of a law requiring annual 5 percent to 6 percent reductions in doctor reimbursements for treating Medicare patient
So taxpayer money and medical coverage are being sold to the highest bidder.

The thread started here said nothing about the AMA, the AARP or the ABA - it was started specifically about Mary Landriau and an alleged "Bribe." The thread title was very specific as was the wording of the thread.
You're either on the wrong thread or you're trying to wiggle out of the fact that the only Republican who voted for the health care bill was from, opps, Louisiana.
Can you even bring yourself to admit that maybe, just maybe, they threw that little bone in there for both of them?
