Gun sales shoot up amid America’s fear of rising crime and terrorism.
Smith & Wesson, the famed American gunmaker once owned by Tomkins, the British conglomerate, expects to nearly double its annual sales in the next three to five years as demand for its firearms soars in the recession. It is not alone.
All over America demand for firearms and ammunition is rising amid concerns that rising unemployment, which passed 10 per cent this month, will lead inexorably to higher rates of crime. Fears of terrorism have also helped to lift demand, as have concerns among gun owners that the Obama Administration may introduce restrictions on gun ownership and impose additional taxes. Sad, how some people live in so much fear that they need guns. I think it's a bit irrational, but then again if I lived in a conservative neighborhood surrounded by gun nuts, maybe I'd be afraid too, and want to have gun.

Makes sense, the more people that have 'em, the more there is to fear.
You guys kill me. If only bad people had guns, I'd be afraid. Law abiding citizens owning guns doesn't scare me in the least. Why is it that if someone owns a gun they must be afraid? I own a gun. I'm not afraid of anything happening. The bottom line is, good people having guns is a GOOD thing, and bad people having guns is a BAD thing.

They'll have a hard time figuring out that one.............

There are all sorts of reasons to own guns (including legitimate dangers), but the fact that gun sales skyrocketed after Obama got elected suggests there's some irrational fear among some gun owners.

The only "irrational fear" was the quite legitimate fear that Obama would enact legislation that made it very difficult to buy guns and ammunition. With Obama's quotes out there deriding gun ownership, and the liberals general opposition to private gun ownership, it caused a huge jump in gun sales when he was elected. You can try to read more into it than that, if you so desire.
I do agree with you that there are many reasons to own guns.
