Default Key US Official in Afghanistan Resigns, Saying War Not Worth American Lives

A former marine captain, a very well regarded person across the military.

U.S. official resigns over Afghan war - Washington Post- msnbc.com

In his letter, he calls Afghan President Hamid Karzai "a president whose confidants and chief advisers comprise drug lords and war crimes villains, who mock our own rule of law and counternarcotics efforts."

It's interesting that the Taliban eliminated the drug crops in Afghanistan, and since we've been in there Afghanistan is the world's biggest narcotics maker (again).

It's unfortunate but I have to agree. There is no good way forward in Afghanistan.

Yes because the good Taliban have the welfare of Afghanistan's citizens at heart while we support the narcotics industry over there.

Actually, while the Taliban are brutal and backwards in many ways, it's true that they eradicated drug crops while in power, and the recent rise of Afghanistan as the world narcotics producer is directly related to our presence in there. Do you actually still think everything we do in foreign lands are for good? Do you also still believe in other lies like Santa Claus and the Tooth Fairy?

Get out of Afghanistan now.. get out of Iraq now... not all that complicated, then start closing down some of the 700 bases we pay for world wide...

What you said goes directly against PNAC and neo-con ideology to maintain modern empire/hegemony, at all costs. We have enough crazies who will want to launch nukes before they're willing to withdraw military might across the planet.

The only way we will withdraw is if we can't afford it anymore... actually we already can't afford it, but we definitely can't keep doing it once our foreign investors (China, Japan) stop funding our wars for us.

I've said it before I would rather deal with the Taliban then with qaeda. That brings horror to some when it is said ... but we deal with others in the world just as bad. The country is a wasteland ... always will be. You need infrastructure to build an economy ... they don't have any.

You know what, maybe you're right. Maybe we should start chopping off limbs, slaughtering children, or raping the wives of poppy growers too. That will surely help eradicate the problem.
