Yep, but my post wasn't about representing my point of view, as you are aware. I was attempting to show how views are polarised, using the same people as examples. Why that is becomes more complicated, but then you are intelligent enough to know that.
I happen to think that there is plenty of common ground for a future candidate who wants to focus on it. We mostly agree that Capitalism is better than the Planned economy (most liberals accept that- ask them), we agree that people being killed is a bad thing, we agree that crime is good for nobody (even most criminals don't gain that much from it), we agree that poverty is bad, we agree that wars should be avoided where possible but that security is also important and we agree that opportunities should be extended across the board. We agree that most people are decent and caring. We also agree that the rule of law and moral values making it wrong to steal, lie, kill and so on are essential to society.
The question for you all to answer is how do you unite as many Americans as possible, rather than divide them? I would start by focusing on the common ground.
