Typical govt beauracracy. The TSA is a joke. Remember, a certain political party pushed for it and insisted on federal vs private sector workers. Nonetheless this Bush admin is directly responsible for the joke.
Now that someone with a brain tries to install a rational behavioural profiling system, based upon the successfull Israeli example, those who have no clue that 9/11 happened step in with their ideological kvetching.

There are millions of Americans who probably look like they could be of Arab descent. It's absurd to think that racial profiling could be of much help. Hopefully, we're a little more sophisticated than that and capable of sticking to the maxim, 'innocent until proven guilty.' Furthermore, lets not forget that racial profiling can easily distract law enforcement from the real criminal. That happened a few years ago, during the sniper attacks in the D.C. areas, when racial profiling directed the police to look for white snipers, when in fact the snipers were black. Lastly, let's consider that the most of people who support racial profiling I suspect are people who are very unlikely to be racially profiled, despite the fact that most serial killers are white men and the Oklahoma bombing was committed by white men.

First let look at the "profiling they are instituating..."The Transportation Security Administration will first teach screeners what suspicious behaviors to look for in travelers. These can include nervousness, wearing a big coat in the summer or reluctance to make eye contact with law enforcement. Then, the screener will quiz passengers on their travel plans in hopes of spotting possible terrorists."
Never saw anything about skin color or race. Way to throw the race card every time. I have attended security training by the Israeli security screeners and they are highly trained and enable El Al to be easily the safest airline (as far as highjacking or bombs) in the world and they are easily one of the primary targets..yet NO such attacks succeeded on thier airline (Many, many attempts are made every year) Thier security screeners are second to none and they do not teach RACIAL profiling. They teach "Behavior profiling" and then take it a step further in thier interviews.
That being said, our TSA could not hope to do the same level of job they do as these people are truely SECURITY personnel and our TSA is simply too large to have that many people of that caliber working for them.

This is absolutely absurd...again I point out that the Israeli Method of Behavioral profiling has NOTHING to do with RACE and the TSA never claimed to be looking at people Arab decent.
As far as your DC Sniper claim. The law enforcement NEVER used RACIAL PROFILING in that case at all and in FACT NEVER issued a description of the "snipers". They only issued a possible description of the vehicle being used as a white or light colored van or truck. The only type of "profiling" they used was a geographic profile in order to move resources where they thought they would strike next. Screaming Racism about everything that goes on doesn't make it so.

Your comments here and in another post are spot on. It's BEHAVIOURAL profiling that's the topic. It's clear from the ACLU's knee-jerk behaviour that like Patters et. al. that they 'project' covert racism into every action. Sad.

IIRC the FBI profilers DID say that the likely DC snipers were white males. Though it was dead wrong, I see nothing wrong in principle with that. The profile simply reflects the predominant statistics for that type of crime. Now were that reversed and we profiled a black male and it turned out to be a white male criminal ther'ed be all hell to pay from the professional race baiters like Sharpton and Jackson. THOSE men ARE racists although folks like Patters lack the intellectual discipline and sack to say so.
pats-blue, I'm not familiar with the method. I'm certainly not against using whatever tools we have at our disposal to identify terrorists, but I am against racial profiling. If the Israeli method does not require racial profiling, then I'm all for it.

You might just try reading the reference cited in the initiating post before pontificating erroneously on it.

Maybe network news got some former profiler to go air and say something like that but law enforcement was looking for a particular vehicle(s) only. The only thing released as far as a description of the persons was it was determined that there were likely at least two people involved. I was in a postion to know what Law Enforcement was looking for in this case. My point is that Law Enforcement was not wasting thier time "Racially Profiling" White males because that is what someone doing this crime will look like. People need to stop watching the movies. The only time they were wasting thier time and were "distracted" was when people lied and gave them false leads, like the guy at the Home Depot did (and he was charged and prosecuted for it for once). The ONLY time Law Enforcement will give a possible suspect description is when they have a witness description.
