Do you honestly think they were good honest citizens who loved freedom, mom, apple pie and puppy dogs prior to the Iraq war?

Do you honestly think that most of the insurgents are either foreigners from Saudi Arabia, Iran, Syria, Yemen, Qatar etc... or remnants from the Baath party who wish to remain in power?

Turd, don't you know your history? They're freedom fighters in the same sense that Reagan meant it when he called the Taliban freedom fighters. If the Republicans can call the Taliban freedom fighters, then I see nothing wrong with calling the insurgents freedom fighters.

By last estimate roughly 7% were foreign jihadists. That would make the other 93% Iraqis fighting for their own Iraqi interests- primarily secular Sunni, of course, as they have the most to lose from the Islamic Republic of Iraq.

Iraqis support attacks on British troops

The poll, undertaken for the Ministry of Defence and seen by The Sunday Telegraph, shows that up to 65 per cent of Iraqi citizens support attacks and fewer than one per cent think Allied military involvement is helping to improve security in their country.

It demonstrates for the first time the true strength of anti-Western feeling in Iraq after more than two and a half years of bloody occupation.

The nationwide survey also suggests that the coalition has lost the battle to win the hearts and minds of the Iraqi people, which Tony Blair and George W Bush believed was fundamental to creating a safe and secure country.

I don't think it's fair to compare the American Freedom Fighters to the Iraqi insurgents. While they have some in common, for instance they both fought against a big, bad military machine; they both used unconventional and widely considered barbaric war tactics; neither received the vast support of the population. But their main objectives differ too much. The Freedom Fighters wanted representative democracy, while the insurgents want Islamic theocracy. The Freedom Fighters did not attack its own people the way the insurgents in Iraq do. Also the Americans in 1770's had no other outlet to protest the British, they were basically prisoners of a far away dictatorship. Meanwhile the insurgents in Iraq have every opportunity to join political parties that want the American occupation to end.

Don't you know your history? The Taliban/Afghans were fighting the Russians who were attempting to annex their country. The US has no plans to make Iraq a US territory or state.
