No, the State didn't. An individual representing the state did. Don't make the brush too broad.

Justices of the peace used to be important a long time ago. Now I don't think it is. I don't think many states do a rigorous background check, either. I may be wrong about that, though.

For every ridiculous situation like this--I'm just surprised they didn't just shack up like so many young couples do today--there are hundreds or thousands of the state acting arbitrarily with environmental, zoning, and gun regulations, denying Americans their freedoms.

Did you know there's an actual case where a landowner was denied a building permit simply because the state determined it was a wetland? Yeah, they did so because there was some rainwater in tractor marks when loggers cleared a portion of the lot.

And 10 to 15 percent (my est.) of the cops are out of control fighting the unwinnable drug war.

To try to keep pounding the 1960s Civil Rights drum is misplaced when one looks at what really ails people. The acceptance of interracial couples has been one of the dramatic & unheralded improvements in just my lifetime--one of the things candidate Obama ignored.

Black athletes can and sometimes do express opinions that are not politically correct or outside the norms of today's liberal society, like the late Reggie White. I also remember the boxer Ken Norton became estranged from his son, the LB, about ten or fifteen years ago, simply because he was with a white woman.

Here's an internet search I did of the speech in front of the Wisconsin legislature over ten years ago: Packers' Reggie White Spouts Insane Extremist Bigotry and Hate

once again, now breath deeply, these are opinions of citizens... not folks entrusted to uphold the law... you can go back and forth on this, and if you want will find public citizen after public citizen who will go against interracial marriage... it is all crap, a Justice of the Peace is supposed to uphold marriage laws not make them up...

Reggie White is and was a more important figure than any of a thousand justices of the peace put together. And that's probably not adequate.

After White's untimely death, his image was portrayed by more than one football player.

You're talking about people who form the culture, not do marriage licenses. I can find a justice of the peace here or there or anywhere. Come on, DarrylS, you're better than this.

Am much better than this and the lame excuses for this J of the Peace, the reality is that the right cannot separate the cause celebre from those who are elected or appointed officials that carry out the duty of the state..

The difference, is that many on the left can filter out who makes policy and who is supposed to enforce it, vis a vis those who just pontificate points of view on the sidelines that fit their narrow agenda...

What is interesting is this guy was a justice of peace for 35 years, likely denying interracial marriages the entire time.

It says a lot about Louisiana that this guy wasn't brought up a lot earlier.

David Duke's website, White Civil Rights has an interesting take on this..

White Civil Rights Judge Refuses to Perform Interracial Wedding

Quote:
Needless to say, there will be a huge outcry to fire this judge. A swarm of Jewish lawyers will instantly appear to file lawsuits against him. There may even be criminal Federal civil rights charges that some Leftist commissar will dream up. After all, how dare this judge suggest that interracial marriages don’t last. After all, that’s the sort of union that produced Barack Obama. Never mind the fact that Barack’s parents conceived him before the marriage and their marriage only lasted a couple years.

It’s true that interracial relationships don’t last. Most of them end in violence as the black buck gets tired of the White race-mixing slut talking back to him. Usually the White woman winds up viciously battered looking like Rhianna, after Chris Brown got through with her. Every few weeks another OJ-style story leaks into the press about a White woman getting murdered by a black who got a little too jealous or crazy. Unfortunately, the Jewish media doesn’t focus on these stories.

Wow, Duke is so bitter at White women (calling them sluts) and Jews.

Did Duke start stormfront, or was that other people?
