Default "Doom & Gloom"....it's a new sickness!

We have much to be grateful for.....

There is as much good done in the world every single day as there are evil deeds....but it doesn't make the news.

But what happened to our board members lately? Many here seem to be enjoying "Doom & Gloom" topics.

Some are enjoying criticizes there own nation as if it's an evil one.

Others REALLY seem to want to apologize for all acts committed by caucasian Americans even thought they're no more evil than anyone else.

Others want to defend the rights of criminals even though they don't deserve any (hence the term "loss of freedom" and "ward of the state").

Many seem to want this nation to become part of some new world order where every country is equal....even the ones lead by psychos!

I mean, what kind of American would take the following positions?
-America has been an evil empire
-America is going down...just like the Roman Empire!
-Americans are bad....especially caucasian Americans!
-People would rather live elsewhere rather than in America
-Capitalism is evil, militaries are more evil, and both are part of a conspiracy!
-Americans are lazy

Feel free to add to the list folks...you're on a roll!!!

IMO the polarization started in the early 2000's, continued and fueled by select personnel on the airwaves... it continues to this day, and probably will get worse.. which I cannot imagine how.

Does not make it right, but this polarization will continue until something really big happens... then things may change, but do not see it now...

You make some valid points Darryl. Maybe this is why our country was formed the way it is....so people can change it.

But the negativity from both sides seems to counter-productive. People seem to support vies based upon their party instead of making up their own minds based upon facts.

Maybe that in itself is a sign we're going down!

I hear you PR. I especially hate this one, mostly because Classical history is near and dear to me. I've studied Roman history for 10+ years, and sure there are parallels. I like using some myself. But people just generalize too much, and really compromise the validity of that statement. Oh they were a world power, oh they were in the throes of corruption and excess. Sure, there's a lot of good points, but the world is a VERY different place now than it was in 476 A.D. And besides, every world power waxes and wanes. It's like me saying, I'm going to die someday. Yeah, we know that. The question of where, when, and how is very open however.

There's lots of good comparison and parallels to make, but we have to be careful not to be too general.

Great points army! I have to remember you next time I get in a "The Fall of Rome" debate!

The worst though are those who seem to subconsciously enjoy telling people the US is falling. WTF kind of person could enjoy saying that (outside the middle east of course!)?

Then you get those who say "Hey, I love America, but I could care less about our gov't".....what the hell is THAT about?

Hey, maybe they're the same types that would take up arms against our own nation...who knows army...who knows?

PR - you start a thread talking about how bad "doom and gloom" is, questioning why it exists and asking us to realize that there is as much good as there is bad in the world today and then you immediately follow up with not one but two posts containing (go figure) gloom and doom prophecy.

Pay him no mind, Mrs.P.... Reign is the president of this board's "Nothing to See Here" therapy group, fashioned after the teachings of the great Francis P. Drebbin:

YouTube - Nothing to see here

These people adhere to a strict set of tenets that invariably go something like this:

- never acknowledge criminal U.S. foreign policy, ... deny, deny, deny... or, if you must acknowledge such a documented unpleasant truth, immediately deflect and sugar coat to something good the U.S. has done, so that it's all "put in perspective."

- pretend "infinite growth" is a viable term, and that free market capitalism is a flawless model.

- attempt to ostracize anyone acknowledging serious problems in U.S. foreign or domestic policy, even when they offer solutions, and especially when they suggest reparations and/or good will.

- pretend U.S. government-sanctioned genocide was essentially "worth it" considering the end result, thus encouraging (perhaps indirectly) more of it in the future.

- insist anyone citing documented geology or climatology in regards to the affects of gluttonous burning of fossil fuels is somehow a scholar of "Kookoo science" or a lobbyist for "liberal agenda." ... Also, whenever possible, suggest those people "hate America" for even acknowledging such warnings.

- preface pro-hegemonic ideals with the phrase "I'm no fan of Bush, but..." a whole lot.

- demand that anyone speaking out about U.S. sanctioned atrocity should thus "move to another country," as if only quiet loyalist sheep deserve to live here.

- pretend dissent is unhealthy, regardless of what Jefferson or Henry ever said.

and, above all..

- pretend "optimism" is a policy.

- conflate calls for accountability and change with a desire to see America fail.
