Again the issue of individual accountability comes into play.

Since I've been here in Louisiana, I can't believe how the general populace treats the corruption here - it's a joke to them, there's an attitude of "It's always been this way". To some it's a thing of pride ...

Even Gov. Edwards (who did do a lot for the state and got things done) is admired long after his guilty charge.

Strange state this is.

This guy protected his business from "LOOTERS" I commened him, there is nothing lower than a "Rat Maggot" that will steal from a person when they are down.

Looters should be "hung by the neck until dead", good and dead.

Private business relies on growth, change and innovation in order to succeed. Government needs none of those as they realize they have an endless supply of capital to work with. They simply need to keep busy and cover their asses.

True, though not completely true. Government does have competive aspects in the form of elections. Tip O'Neill's famous comment that all politics is local reminds one that the most successful politicians, regardless of party are those who are good at constituent services, i.e., those who when called upon make government work for their constituents. Strom Thurmond and Ted Kennedy are two examples at each end of the spectrum.

And, yes, I agree government by its nature has some weaknesses, but so does business. It's no secret that some businesses in recent years "grew" by conducting pyramid schemes, changed by telling shareholders lies about the company's success, or innovated by creating products (such as drugs) they knew to be dangerous. Government is no worse than business, and at least government is easier to keep tabs on.

I work for a charity, funded by the Government. We would be better off if we didn't have interfering politicians, setting bogus and meaningless targets, allegedly meant to show "accountability". I have no choice but to comply in order to keep my job.
I hate it as it detracts from actually doing my job, i.e. supporting people to keep their tenancies and manage their lives. It's funny that I am trusted to go into strangers' homes and not exploit them (I have a detailed Police check to verify my criminal record or lack of it), but I am not trusted just to get on with my job without writing down everything I do in a day and doing reviews of my work (which itself requires a huge amount of paperwork) every so often. The thing is that the tenants I support really don't care that I give them a paper review every so often. They would prefer me to spend my time doing practical tasks for them.
The other ironic thing is that the more time I spend in the office making the stats add up and showing the Government that I am doing my job, the more likely it is that I will miss something important and end up having to cover my ass.

What pray tell would you do, counsel them, maybe give them a "Jimmy Carter House", while you were counseling them they would be stealing your wallet.

The people that were looted worked hard and long for what they had and an example should be set to warn all other "Looters" that their Cruel Vicious Behavior will not be tolerated.

The hang em high thing was a "figure of speech" but realisticlly they should do "Hard Time" with "NO PAROLE" many would think twice before the "Next Looting Spree"

If a person acts like a savage then in my book they are a savage.

You see, I am a realist.

Those looters would have much more respect for me than they would you because they would know where I am coming from. They themselves will tell you that a "Do-Gooder" can never be trusted, they always have an angle.

I know this because I grew up and lived with the looters for forty years. Many are my friends today.
