Default Obama - Henry Kissinger, Woodrow Wilson, Theodore Roosevelt

Good Opinion Piece - Not a thread to pick on Obama as he did not ask for the award ...

the author feels the reward needs to be retired ... I agree. The world is a mess ...

nobody deserves it
and that would have been the best choice of all.

t r u t h o u t | Nobel Prize for Promises?

Quote:
Yes, Wilson gets credit for the League of Nations - that ineffectual body which did nothing to prevent war. But he also bombarded the Mexican coast, sent troops to occupy Haiti and the Dominican Republic and brought the US into the slaughterhouse of Europe in the first World War - surely, among stupid and deadly wars, at the top of the list.
Quote:
Sure, Theodore Roosevelt brokered a peace between Japan and Russia. But he was a lover of war, who participated in the US conquest of Cuba, pretending to liberate it from Spain while fastening US chains around that tiny island. And as president he presided over the bloody war to subjugate the Filipinos, even congratulating a US general who had just massacred 600 helpless villagers in the Phillipines. The Committee did not give the Nobel Prize to Mark Twain, who denounced Roosevelt and criticized the war, nor to William James, leader of the anti-imperialist league.
Quote:
Oh yes, the Committee saw fit to give a peace prize to Henry Kissinger, because he signed the final agreement ending the war in Vietnam, of which he had been one of the architects. Kissinger, who obsequiously went along with Nixon's expansion of the war with the bombing of peasant villages in Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia. Kissinger, who matches the definition of a war criminal very accurately, was given a peace prize!

Long on opinions, short on facts. The basis for the arguments against each are using opinions as facts that aren't substantiated by any means.

Never said that, I said it was using opinions as facts and aren't substantiated by any means. It's two damn short, it could have been a great in depth analysis of the past award winners but instead it reads like a cheap opinion piece that used obscure examples to try to justify when there were others that would make more sense to use that every kid learned about in school: Wilson and the Mexican incursion by US troops over a year that found nothing but humiliation and Roosevelt and the building of the Panama Canal which stole a strip of Panama for the US splitting the country in two that would not be given back until the 1990s.

The Prize would have meant far more if Obama was on the road to "PEACE", Obama and his gang preached "Change We Can Believe In" nothing has changed, they may have become worse, Bush was Hated and he was called a Moron because he beat the Democrats, twice, his policys remain, the wars still rage, troops are still dying, Gitmo is still open and now we have this ungodly Government run health care trying to be forced on us, we could say "things have changed" yes, things are WORSE, Pop Culture has elected a Professional Chicago Bull***** Artist who has in the last 9 months done nothing, there is No Change except now the Dictators and the America Haters love our new president.

WHERE ARE THE WAR PROTESTERS WHERE HAVE THEY GONE

THE NOBEL PEACE PRIZE HAS BECOME A LEFT WING LIBERAL JOKE PEOPLE WHO DON'T RECIEVE IT SHOULD BE PROUD OF THAT HONOR.

People play this like it is something he lobbied for or something he could control, seems pretty snobbish to imply that it should no longer exist.... we have nothing to do with this as a nation, it is an award from a foreign nation... take it or leave it. Just because they perceive he deserves it, does not mean a lot, except it descends into another play regarding partisan politics... personally seems to be a reaction to the end of the neo con rule that we were subjected to for the last 8 years... he will give the 1.4 million to charity... so what???

I know he didn't look for it, I can't understand what he did to make them choose him outside of going over there and trashing his own country, war still rages under him, he plans on sending more troops to die, Terrible Gitmo remains open, he continues the Bush Policy and gets the Nobel Peace Prize.............
