Default Interesting comments from OBL on Afghanistan..

reading the Tillman book, highly recommend.. interesting passage on page 81..

Krakuer quotes Lawrence Wright from his book "Burning Tower"..

Quote:
The attacks seemed pointless, a showy act of mass murder with conceiveable effect on American policy except to provoke a massive response.

But that, as it turned out, was exactly the point. Bin Laden wanted to lure the US into Afghanistan, which was already being called the graveyard of empires...
War what is is good for.. making money for the defense contractors...

When he was alive, Bin Laden boasted in one of his messages that all he had to do was (I'm paraphrasing here)

Run one of his troops up to the top of a mountain and wave an Al Qaeda flag, and teh United states would waste a million dollars dropping a bomb on him. He would eventually cripple us financially.

Makes me think he has seen the movie "Trading Places"

It's funny that you say that. That's how we "won" the cold war and set off the collapse of the USSR. We forced them into a spending war. Their socialist system could'nt keep pace and the collapsed. No shots fired. Now someone comes along with a shadow war to test the limits of capitalism.

not sure you understand the ENTIRE picture on how we assisted in defeating the soviets.

Charlie Wilson and Rocket Launchers defeated the soviet union.

Yeah they helped...... I was in the Soviet Union shortly after the cold war. Or there abouts considering it was off limits for a while. All I can say is when I touched down on Soviet soil, I looked around and thought to myself, "how could we have been at war with these people". The city I was in was in shambles, total dilapidation from lack of infrastructure maintenence. All of their resources were being diverted from the people to the arsenal.

The US is similar to what Orwell described in 1984. Constantly creating a new enemy, no matter how weak or harmless they actually are (like Iraq 2003).

The whole thing... is a puppet show now.

I think Divers point about Bin Laden is a valid one. Bin Laden's plan is sound and for us it's a bit ironic. Because, we can't help ourselves.

As did our bilking of their economy throughout the Clinton era 90s, including and especially the Harvard Foundation.

Charlie Wilson's endeavors were only the beginning.
