Default WellPoint Cuts Workers' Health Insurance Benefits

If this doesnt sum up the insurance reform debate...I don't know what does...

WellPoint health insurance company, which has encouraged its employees to lobby against health care reform, is now cutting their benefits.

The insurance giant plans to raise deductibles and premiums for some of its employee health benefits. "Your cost per paycheck will probably increase," said a memo to Wellpoint employees that was obtained by Bloomberg News.

The company blamed the recession for the cuts. "Like many employers in today's economic environment, we are looking at all aspects of our business," including benefits, "and making adjustments to ensure we can continue to operate competitively in the future," wrote Chief Human Resources Officer Randy Brown.

WellPoint's CEO, Angela Brady, made nearly $10 million in 2008.

Well they could cut benefits or go out of business and they would have nothing. This is a precursor to them knowing Obama wants them out of business. You liberals want socialism well here it is the first shot has been lobbed across the bow. The left expects government control, wealth redistribution and corporate profits to coexist - yeah, right. This could be good though as it will add to the vote the democrats and Obama gone movement. Where have you gone Ronald Reagan, the nation needs your clone.

Holy crap, that was an enjoyable reply for sure!

in your world.....WELLPOINT is so close to going out of business, that they cut HEALTHCARE benefits (which they provide as a business) to their own workers to save costs....

Then pay the CEO 10MILLION a year?

You said 10 mil in 2008. Well it's not 2008 allot of things changed in a short amount of time. I can't for the life of me figure out why you liberals get all hot and bothered over what someone makes. We have the third most millionaires of any country in the world. If I were a gambling man I would bet they are not all Republicans.

When a healthinsurer is doling out tens of millions to a single person and forcing its employees to cut thier benefits...its worth raising a stink.

and notice that this article references neither democrats or republicnas. Its references a greedy-assed CEO, and a company whose job it is to provide HEALTHCARE cutting its own employees benefits.

These same employees were out there screaming during the town halls. Only to come back to the job where they made stockholders and CEOs billions by denyiing coverage, only to get the same treatment by nmanagement....

they must feel like a bunch of suckers.

I don't see why you conservatives are so quick to defend millionaires and billionaires who stay that way by stealing your money.

Liberal logic is this:

Cut Ceo pay and go after millionaires money while at the same time tax millionaires more to raise more revenue. Yo!!! Liberals, if you tax them more and restrict their pay more there will be less of them. Intelligence and proper running of a business is rewarded with bonus and pay which is then reinvested into our economy creating jobs. Proper running of a company means more will stay employed. This has been proven many times over and it;s called efficiency.

wow...

I think you REALLY misunderstand how capitalism in america works.

If a CEO were to be taxed at the usual 90%, they would be inclined to take less, and invest more in the company and its people. Since the rate was cut by your boy Reagan...we've seen the gap between the CEO and the average worker widen. We've seen the rate of job exportation increase, we've seen the poor get poorer, and the rich get fewer.

The incentive for these pilars of iindustry is to keep making more money for themselves. They have proven what happens when the inmates take over the asylum. You can't tell me that a CEO on the job for 6 months and who oversees a company getting bailed out by taxpayers deserves a multi-million dollar severance?

seriously?

you are FOR rewarding failure?

Just one example "The South Financial Group, South Carolina's largest bank, announced earlier this week that it had been approved to receive $347 million from the U.S. government. But the bank's founder and longtime CEO Mack Whittle won't be sticking around. He retired with an $18 million severance package in late October, two months earlier than had been expected. Because of the timing, he's free from golden parachute limits that come with accepting bailout money."

here is a fun little chart that might help you out...

Golden Parachute | The Big Picture

By all means keep defending failure, and compensation to it. These people love you for it.

T Brady makes $10 mil, nfl employees were laid off, T Brady is evil, the government should run the NFL.

We just have to try to evaluate them the best we can."

Job exportation has to do more with the corporate tax rate in this country than it has to do with the prosperity of the CEO's. So you are off base. No one would be against the golden parachutes going away, Rep's or Dem's. There is nothing wrong with proseperity, demonizing individuals for it is a slippery slope.
