While the affair made national news in June, the role that Mr. Ensign played in assisting Mr. Hampton and helping his clients has not been previously disclosed. Several experts say those activities may have violated an ethics law that bars senior aides from lobbying the Senate for a year after leaving their posts.
In acknowledging the affair, Mr. Ensign cast it as a personal transgression, not a professional one. But an examination of his conduct shows that in trying to clean up the mess from the illicit relationship and distance himself from the Hamptons, he entangled political supporters, staff members and Senate colleagues, some of whom say they now feel he betrayed them.
Oh-ohhhhhh.
Forget it dum-dums. The old "ooooo Dems are sooooo immoral" card is so played out it's comical. Better stick to unspecified anger and hate; The Ensigns, Sanfords, Bakkers, ad infinitum, of the Republican world have doomed the "we're more moral" lie to failure.
I notice you've very concerned that a late-night talkshow host got laid now. Huh. What'd Letterman running for again?

Nice try at damage control but the fact is clear that Letterman has FAR more impact on the culture than what's his name, Ensign??, whom most people have never heard of and next to Letterman does not exist. Take street poll if you doubt me.
Letterboy is a dirt bag. Should be kicked off TV for five years at least.

What a load of horsecrap. People elected Senator have a public trust to uphold, as you are quite happy to endlessly postulate when a pol is a liberal of any kind. Talk show hosts are responsible to entertain and have to abide by the law and their company's personnel policy.
Nobody's listening to the Ayatollahs of the right anymore. As I say, their new drumbeat of "we just HATE you guys!" is what they're left with.
You really think anybody thinks that the right is "more moral" than the left, when the promise-keepers and the reverends keep getting busted on the affairs that they -- and pretty much ONLY they -- keep trumpeting as this grave threat to our national "fabric"?

Me? I'm concerned with it all. To say that Ensign (who?) has as much of a reach into the cultural ethos as Letterman is ridiculous on its face. Millions see and hear what that clown Letterboy does every single day (until now) than anything Ensign will do or has ever done.
Just the facts, ma'am.
And CBS, counting the dollars rather than the ethical impact, will probably give Letterboy a slap on the wrist and he'll be back cracking wise. Much to the public's chagrin.

What's the ethical impact of a comedian boinking staffers consensually, assuming nobody establishes any job threat against any of them?
How exactly is there any impact on anybody if Letterman -- who by the way is a clown, but unlilke Ensign is paid to be one -- nails the staff?
It's certainly bad practice b/c he is the boss, so anybody can make the charge that sex was a condition of employment. But so far nobody has.
Get what passes for your mind around what the story was: He was being extorted. "I'll pry into your private life and make it public unless you give me something I want."
He said screw that, creepy stalker extortionists aren't going to stop just because you pay the ransom... so he aired his own private laundry on his own show.
So, unless we have facts to the contrary, the story as it stands is....
- star guy nails girls who work for him
- there is no job threat involved; it could simply be star-fu(ker syndrome
- star guy has been single most of this time (married 6 months ago)
- So what's the "illicit sex" again? You mean because they weren't married?
Ensign on the other hand was nailing the wife of a guy working for him, was himself married, and was supposed to be doing the public's business to boot.
My personal feeling is the opposite, frankly. I don't give a damn about either of them. But righties want to have it both ways: boink the staffers and then get elected promising to police "bad" sexual relationships.
