Chicago is certainly not the only place where honor students get killed. In fact, Chicago falls far behind quite a few other US cities in number of murders committed.

Chicago's not even in the top 10.

Bill Ayers and Bernadine Dorhn just happened to settle in Chicago but Chicago had nothing to do with freeing them. It was a federal charge and it was the federal government which freed them.

Chicago as an Olympic City might not be the best idea, granted, but neither is Rio, where crime is totally out of control or Madrid where the terrorist threat is much higher. Japan may be the best choice but Chicago would surely be the second best - and how exactly would you feel if our president lobbied for a foreign county such as Japan rather than for his own?

You need to get real, Foggy, and understand that some things are just necessary - a president with a city in the country he governs is certainly going to lobby for that city - regardless. Would you really expect (or want) him to do differently?

I wonder if Fog has the same attitude towards Yale University, where a lab technician recently murdered a young woman. Based on that crime, can we now generalize about those who are employed and engaged to be married?

But, my strong suspicion is Fog does not know the family status or income status of the accused, and is making generalizations based on their race. Classic bigotry. Let's see how Fog changes the subject to try to weasel his way out of this one, rather than take personal responsibility and do some self reflection. Shame on him.

People who make excuses for vicious violent crimes -- like the one shown in this video, with a gang-banger killing a 16-year old honor student who was just trying to help out -- are just as guilty of this murder as the animal who wielded the weapon. Anybody who seeks to excuse what happened on this video needs to stand trial along side the one who actually hit the youngster and committed the murder.

No one is seeking to excuse what happened, but it was an isolated and very tragic crime and does not reflect at all on the thousands of students who are good, decent, and hard working.

Chicago closed out the year with 509 homicides, an increase of about 15 percent over 2007, but still among the lowest numbers in decades, according to preliminary data released by the department Thursday.

The city had fewer than 500 homicides each year from 2003 through 2007, and 2007’s number, 443, was fewest in more than 40 years.

Just what caused the double-digit increase in 2008, along with an expected overall increase in crime, is debatable. Chicago had 509 homicides in 2008 - Chicago Tribune

Meanwhile, Bill Ayers and Bernadine Dohrn, domestic terrorists who several times bombed United States federal property, are not only walking around free as birds -- NEVER HAVING SERVED EVEN ONE DAY IN PRISON -- they are actually getting paid by the tax-payers of Illinois and America, paid for TEACHING young people.
