Said it before, will say it again: with each passing day I'm seeing more of Jimmy Cahter redux in Obama-rama. He's younger and an infinitely better speaker, but his substance, his content, is not much different from what Cahter was peddling. A little better -- MAYBE -- but not much.

These ACORN nuts, Van Jones, Rahm Emmanual, and other whackos he associates himself with are deeply troubling.

Iran is going nuclear; North Korea is already there; Venezuela wants to go there; Mexico/Latin America is running drugs in the U.S. like there's no tomorrow; and China has more U.S. currency than anyone except the people running the U.S. mint. We need leadership, boys and girls, and it's got to be GOOD. Half-azz won't do. Not now.

Wow, color me surprised. Fog thinks Obama is like Jimmy Carter. What a shock. Nice of you to dump all of this in Obama's lap, since he's been in office what, six months. Somehow I doubt you were this critical the past eight years.

Obama is going to destroy the country from the inside. He is going to make 9/11 seem like nothing. He is fullfilling his obligation to allah his god. Right in front of everyones eyes we go down the tube thanks to the liberals who thought all their bills were going to get paid.

RW the article in Forbes is correct, it may be worse this time. We are looking at a higher debt/GDP # and higher spending as a % of GDP along the the looming retirement of the baby boomers.

The dems will get some stupid pubbies to go along with 'health care reform'. This will be the icing on the stagflation cake and the Treasury prints money and uses inflation to monitize the debt. We seem this approach before and it is a disaster.

We just have to try to evaluate them the best we can."

President Obama wants to raise taxes on those higher income people who create the obs in the economy. Recently he instituted tariffs on Chinese tires inviting a response on chicken and grain products that are being exported. If they tighten credit, they will be repeating the mistakes of history and fail to learn from it.......

From the link in the OP: bold added by me.

The 1977-1980 bear market was a slow-motion slide into stagflation, double-digit interest rates and malaise. Mick Jagger sang: “Don’t you know the prime rate’s going up, up, UP?” When is the last time you heard a pop musician wailing about interest rates? It could happen again.
Ok, is that some kind of joke?

Not only has credit been tightened, there is very little demand for credit from the consumer sector. Consumers are tightening their use of credit all on their own. Another difference is that most Americans saved money back in the 20's and credit cards didn't exist.

It's going to be a long time before consumer demand for credit increases at all. So even if Americans decide to start "spending" again, it will be with cash more than it has been for decades. What this all means is that "Consumer Spending" will remain below previous levels for years to come.

If Americans only bought with cash, our GDP would have been about 20-30% below what we've had from the past 10-15 years. Of course some Americans will still buy on credit, but only a percentage of what drove our economy previously.

Remember, consumer spending drives almost 75% of US GDP, so even if commercial credit loosened, businesses would have no reason to invest in increased production. Businesses and corporations can not change the direction of our economy on their own, they need the help of consumers to re-fuel the engine.

Honestly - I'll be surprised if the USA has another election. I felt last year's election was our LAST.
