U.N. Report Advocates Teaching Masturbation to 5-Year-Olds

August 26, 2009 By Joseph Abrams

NEW YORK — The United Nations is recommending that children as young as five receive mandatory sexual education that would teach even pre-kindergarteners about masturbation and topics like gender violence.

The U.N.'s Economic, Social and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) released a 98-page report in June offering a universal lesson plan for kids ranging in age from 5-18, an "informed approach to effective sex, relationships" and HIV education that they say is essential for "all young people."

The U.N. insists the program is "age appropriate," but critics say it's exposing kids to sex far too early, and offers up abstract ideas — like "transphobia" — they might not even understand.

"At that age they should be learning about ... the proper name of certain parts of their bodies," said Michelle Turner, president of Citizens for a Responsible Curriculum, "certainly not about masturbation."

Turner was disturbed by UNESCO's plans to explain to children as young as nine about the safety of legal abortions, and to advocate and "promote the right to and access to safe abortion" for everyone over the age of 15.

"This is absurd," she told FOXNews.com.

The UNESCO report, called "International Guidelines for Sexuality Education," separates children into four age groups: 5-to-8-year-olds, 9-to-12-year-olds, 12-to-15-year-olds and 15-to-18-year-olds.

Under the U.N.'s voluntary sex-ed regime, kids just 5-8 years old will be told that "touching and rubbing one's genitals is called masturbation" and that private parts "can feel pleasurable when touched by oneself."

I suppose the question is, Do we cling to the old religious world view or do we embrace the scientific model. Assuming the report is based on sound scientific method, then the whole program (not just the dirty piece that titillates righties) could help accomplish the following:

http://www.foxnews.com/projects/pdf/082509_unesco.pdf

"• delay the debut of sexual intercourse;
• reduce the frequency of unprotected sexual activity;
• reduce the number of sexual partners; and
• increase the use of protection against pregnancy and STIs during sexual intercourse."

Religion is fine, but don't be afraid of science.

WTF does teaching 5 year olds how to masturbate, have to do with religion? Who teaches a 5 year old how to pull his prick? What a ****ed up report.

The point may be that if sex is not treated as something so taboo, kids will be able to deal with it more maturely. I'm not going to prejudge the report without considering it's evidence. Your evidence is simply your the attitudes of your culture and religion, which I presume is where your beliefs came from. Tradition is nice, but I still prefer the scientific method.

You brought up religion you goof. Twice! Seriously dude, wtf does religion have to do with teaching 5 year olds how to whack off? Would you teach your 5 year old son, or nephew, how to whack off? WTF is wrong with people. We're talking 5 year olds! My guess is that this is an idea brought to you by the same people who think it's swell to drug kids, who actually act like, well, kids.

Where do your views come from if not your religion and culture. From your readings on the subject of sex education?

I agree that intuitively it probably doesn't make sense to teach 5-8 year olds about masturbation, but I'm open minded about it. If studies really show that teaching kids that age helps reduce promiscuity, sexual abuse, and so on, isn't it worth at least thinking about it? Why does science frighten you so much?

And again, if your views aren't based on science or religion, what are they based on? Did you learn about masturbation at the age of 5 and find it damaging?

Nice to see this is what the UN wastes its time on. Let kids find out how to whack on their own. Why teach five year olds?

It isn't bout religion or culture. It is rather awkward and unnecessary to tutor five year olds on how to whack and on top of that I am not buying the supposed benefits.

They're based on something that your kind have little of, and that's common sense.

Sheesh, do you really need to have this explained to you?

Patters did not say religion has anything to do with teaching kids to whack off; he said it has to do with impacting your opinion of the merits of doing so. Learn to read English already.

Hey, SFB, religious beliefs have NOTHING to do with a person thinking 5 year olds are a tad to young to be taught masterbation. I guess you need that explained to you.
