Democrats accused of using Edward Kennedy’s death to promote reforms
Democrats were accused of exploiting the death of Senator Edward Kennedy yesterday after immediately trying to use his name to revive President Obama’s flagging attempt to overhaul the US healthcare system.
Within hours of Mr Kennedy’s death on Wednesday leading Democrats were trying to turn it into a rallying point for healthcare reform — something that he had called the “cause of my life” — and suggested that any legislation should carry his name.
“[It was] the passion of his life,” David Obey, the Democratic chairman of the House Appropriations Committee, said. “Above all else, he would want us to redouble our efforts to achieve it.”
In related news, many feel the best way to honor Mary Jo Kopechne is to simply lay Teddy to rest and forget about him, once and for all time. Amen.

Not suprising. That's politics. That's what politicians do. Expect a chorus of "Lets pass this one for Teddy" calls.
In fact, if Teddy were alive, he'd be one of the first that would seek to use it for political gain. This is the guy that less then one week before dying (when he had other ***** to think about), he was trying to manipulate one last time and get the law back to where his successor could be picked by the gov insteed of the voters (which he himself lobbied for a few years ago).
I don't even mean that as an insult. That's what politicians do. They seek to gain a political advantage to everything. The republicans would likely do the same exact thing. It's hardwired.
It will be subtle, but that will be the underlying theme to the health care debate moving forward.

I would completely agree. If there had been some major push for lower taxes when Reagan died, you know the Republicans would have done the same. Politician is just another for opportunist.
Re: Dems accused of exploiting Kennedy's death .... so what's new??
Revolution is building, the politicians and this arrogant 'full of himself' poster boy president have underestimated the American People, the people will take to the streets and physically fight over this one, the American people DO NOT WANT OBAMA'S SOCIALIST HEALTH CARE and the name Kennedy won't mean ***** to the America outside of Massachsetts in fact linking Kennedy to this bill may turn some who were for it against it, Kennedy may be a Magic Fairyland Name in Mass but in much of this country the name Ted Kennedy means a drunken politician who cheated in school, cheated on his wives, and walked away from another human being who was dying because of him without lifting a finger to try and help her.
I say "good" let the democrats use Uncle Teddy it will help to defeat the bill and socialism.

It would be a huge mistake to do so. TK is revered nowhere else but in New England and the media. The rest of the country would quickly reject this tactic. And it's a bulls#!t tactic, at that. It suggests desperation.
