Newsmax.com - GOP&#39s McCotter Pushes Pet Care Tax Breaks

Quote:
Rep. Thaddeus McCotter tells Newsmax about a bill he is sponsoring that would provide Americans with a tax deduction for the cost of caring for a pet in these difficult economic times.

Rep. McCotter, who represents a Detroit-area district, introduced the HAPPY (Humanity and Pets Partnered Through the Years) Act on July 31. It would allow taxpayers to take a deduction of up to $3,500 a year for "qualified pet care expenses," including veterinary care. It is now in committee.

"We introduced it because we've been noticing that pet adoptions were down from shelters and the inflow of pets from their owners to shelters due to the recession was increasing," he said.

"And so people suggested a tax [deduction] for those expenses related to owning a pet.

I'm not in favor of any targeted tax cuts although it is a fact that dogs and cats are homeless more in recessions so it's not a non issue for those who care about animals.

Sounds like a good bill to me.
I don't care what side of the aisle it comes from.
It would help more strays to find homes because people
would be encouraged to take care of them.

It would also let me save some money.

How the $%#@ do these morons get elected?

People care more about random dogs in this country, than they do random people.

I've got an idea. Mike Vick is out of jail, so why not give him the homeless strays to get rid of? Not only would it be cheaper, but if they charged him a vig on the gambling, the gubmit would probably even turn a profit.

Could care less if someone wants to make a fool of themselves introducing this but could someone change the title...he's a Representative, not a Senator.
