Among the everyday sayings that have been quietly dropped in a bid to stamp out racism and sexism are “whiter than white”, “gentleman’s agreement”, “black mark” and “right-hand man”.

The Northern Ireland Human Rights Commission has advised staff to replace the phrase “black day” with “miserable day”, according to documents released under freedom of information rules.

Black mark is offensive? It's never been offensive, it's just that- a black ink mark next to a person used as a notation for an infraction. It's supposedly offensive because of a negative image of a color, can't offend a color now can you

Calling someone your right hand man is offensive because it is hierarchical? Funny, it's the exact opposite of what it actually means- it's an invaluable assistant. I'd be more offensive by the replacement: second in command. Yeah, that's much better.
