Ex-soldiers don't need to be told they're a burden to society
Well here is a peak at the Obamacare future:
Quote:
After the Bush White House took a look at how this document was treating complex health and moral issues, the VA suspended its use. Unfortunately, under President Obama, the VA has now resuscitated "Your Life, Your Choices."
Who is the primary author of this workbook? Dr. Robert Pearlman, chief of ethics evaluation for the center, a man who in 1996 advocated for physician-assisted suicide in Vacco v. Quill before the U.S. Supreme Court and is known for his support of health-care rationing.
Disgracefule doing this to Vets who have served their country.
Instead of Saving private Ryan we see talking Private Ryan into assisted suicide...

During his tenure as Faith Czar, Towey decried "militant secularism"; the view that religious considerations should be excluded from government affairs and public education.
OK, so I already smell a rat. We know this man has an agenda. And then I found another article he wrote (link); OK, so now we also see he worships the ground Bush walked on.
Mr. Towey makes a big deal out of a particular questionnaire contained in a workbook that Dr. Robert Pearlman put together to assist veterans who face end-of-life illness:
Quote:
The circumstances listed include ones common among the elderly and disabled: living in a nursing home, being in a wheelchair and not being able to "shake the blues." There is a section which provocatively asks, "Have you ever heard anyone say, 'If I'm a vegetable, pull the plug'?" There also are guilt-inducing scenarios such as "I can no longer contribute to my family's well being," "I am a severe financial burden on my family" and that the vet's situation "causes severe emotional burden for my family."
Guilt-inducing? Oh please! Should we pretend that our veterans never face such self doubt in their lives? Should we just sweep it under the rug when it does come up? This prompted me to read more of the workbook myself...
First off, this questionnaire appears in a section entitled "Thought-provoking exercises." Gee, wonder if that's what made Mr. Towey think to use the word provocatively in the above quote. The workbook itself claims that its intent is to be provacative. How clever of Mr. Towey not to mention that. Kind of like Chuckie forgetting to include the word "voluntary" in his blog about how the bills says parental rights will be upsurped by the government.
Second off, I did a search on the workbook and found only two references to suicide, both on page 51 in a Q&A section called "Legal and ethical issues of advance care planning". One is neutral and the other is dissuasive:
Quote:
Q: Is withdrawing treatment considered suicide?
A: Most people would say "no." Withdrawing or stopping a treatment after it has been started, is one way that patients can exercise their right to refuse treatment especially if the treatment does not seem to be achieving the desired goal. However, some religions believe otherwise. You may want to check with your religious advisor to be sure.
Q: Can I specify that I want assisted suicide in my directive?
A: No. Assisted suicide is currently illegal. However, even if it becomes legal, the person making the request would have to be competent and able to change their mind at the time of the suicide. Advance directives only go into effect when you are no longer competent to make decisions.
Now, I don't know much detail about Dr. Pearlman involvement with assisted suicide, but it's quite apparent to me that he held this all in check when he put together the workbook.
My conclusion: this is just attempt from the right to try to get more mileage out of the ridiculous death panel idea and generate further hysteria in the continued effort to minimize any reasonable discourse on the UHC bill debate.
Mr Pearlman argued for Assisted suicide before the Supreme Court, so gald to clear up your ignorance on Mr Pearlman's background.
On the Fox news sunday show, Sen Specter is promising hearings and Sec Duckworth was backpedaling like crazy.
So apparently a nerve was hit.
BTW there were links to the hemlock society in the back of the pamphlet, there was an article linked here about suicide among soldiers, should a booklet by assisted suicide advocated be given to veterans?
There is pressure for rationing care is coming on all sides. The thrust of the government is clear. The government has a vested interest in 'lowering cost' people deciding to die helps the government 'reduce costs'. The government should not advocate end of life issues since they have a clear conflict of interest.

Now whos ignorant......Agent 13 Godef? I think not. You should be embarressed for even implying that death panels could exist. Not even Palin still runs with this ludicrous BS.

Irrelevent. In the workbook, he did not advocate or even suggest assisted suicide except in the Q&A section. And from those comments, he appears to be very knowledgable about the scope of assisted suicide, and yet chooses not to advocate it:

Really?!? Are you talking about the "Your Life Your Choices" workbook I gave you a link to? Because I can't find it. And I betcha most veterens would not even realize that one of its authors advocated assisted suicide, not until the blowhards of the world alerted them, as there is nothing in the workbook that would suggest this.

Aaah, right back to the core issue. "Advocate end of life issues" is a non-sensical phrase, though your post had several so I'll give you BOD. How do you "advocate" an issue? Do you mean for or against? But regardless, the simple fact exists that nowhere does the government propose or even suggest advocating for the right of someone to end their life. Go ahead, prove me wrong.
As I have already said in this thread, this is nothing but anti-UHC bluster.
So let me get this straight, a right wing nut who doesn't "believe" in evolution is accusing Obama of bringing back a book for Vets that's meant to help with end of life issues, previously thrown out I presume as part of Bush's incessant pandering to fundamentalist buffoons. And the "evil" of this is that the same author advocates a patients right to physician assisted suicide? And instead of this being a clear cut civil rights issue, to you nutjobs, this is what, Obama's secret plan to wipe out veterans? Why the fvck is this country half full of borderline psychotic dumbasses like the OP? This is why nobody wants to respond to you children on this issue, you are incapable of adult conversation. The OP didn't even read or familiarize himself with the actual book in question, and you expect to be taken seriously?
Now whos ignorant......Agent 13 Godef? I think not. You should be embarressed for even implying that death panels could exist. Not even Palin still runs with this ludicrous BS.
Where did I reference a death panel in this thread?
I did note a booklet written by an advocate of assisted suicide that is being pushed on veterans by order of the Obama administration.
Pathetic attempt at creating a strawman, par for the course for you.

There is a bias towards not exposing your family and society to financial burdern. The have vunerable people question and doubt the value of their life. Callous and disgusting.
Looking on the bright side perhaps it should have been recommended to Sen Kennedy, Byrd, Dodd and Specter all elderly who have run up enormous medical bills for their treatment, than the administration would perfer to see other forego, sotra like algore telling us to curtail our energy use while he ruses vast amount of energy.
Not a fan of Specter BYW, however he as a cowardly politican can see what a terrible issue this is for the socialist health plan.
We are all supposed to ignore the fact that health care is rationed in countires with single payer systems like the one this approach by the dems will lead to.
Perhaps some are stupid enough to believe this crap being spewed by the administration, most of us aren't that gulliable.
