Default RI Moderate Party

Hopefully the major media outlets give this some play.

This is what the country needs more than ever. Especially in Congress to keep either party from controlling the agenda in DC. The timing has never been better.

IMO a true moderate party would be one that debated issues on their individual merits. Very subjective to say that but with party members voting their party 90% to 95% of the time it's obvious issues are secondary to the special interests that have closer access to our Congress people than we do.

Moderate Party of Rhode Island Wins Official Recognition | WPRI.com

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Rhode Island has a new political party.
The Moderate Party was formally recognized Tuesday as an official party after presenting enough signatures from registered voters to the state Board of Elections.

The designation means the party will be able to place candidates on the ballot in the November 2010 elections.

The party successfully challenged Rhode Island's ballot access laws this year and won the right to begin collecting signatures immediately. State law had required new parties to wait until an election year to start the signature-gathering process.

Forgot to add ... hopefully their first candidate runs vs Patrick (pill popping) Kennedy.

So how much control do democrats and republicans have over the system ... check this out.

Only twice in the history of US election law has a new political party qualified for ballot access by meeting a 5% threshold for signature petitions. George Wallace accomplished this feat in California in 1968, and the California Progressive Party did it in 1937.

In both cases, these new parties had no restrictions on how long they had to collect these signatures. Rhode Island burdens a new party with the nations highest threshold of 5% combined with one of the shortest collection times of 6 months (the time from the beginning of the year to candidate declaration day at the end of June).

Good for them. A moderate party on the rise is what we need. The never ending fight between Republicans and Democrats is sickening and yet together they hold pretty much all the power in our government.

They'll find out Randy can't run consistently anymore. He'll drive [Tom] Brady and [Bill] Belichick crazy. This is just my personal opinion from what I saw: He's losing his legs. He's becoming an old man fast.

The moderate party is an interesting idea, glad to see they got enough signatures.. the problem will be fundraising and name recognition... the folks running for Governor in RI next year already have had a ton of face time and a ton of time to raise some cash.

It will take time and success to gain entry into the political stranglehold that is RI Politics....
