Well ... what is this that has leaked out? Is this Mr. Obama looking out for the people or looking out for special interest ... you decide. Very interesting that this piece comes from Huffpo.
I'll stick with I don't trust them ... why should I.
A memo obtained by the Huffington Post confirms that the White House and the pharmaceutical lobby secretly agreed to precisely the sort of wide-ranging deal that both parties have been denying over the past week.
The memo, which according to a knowledgeable health care lobbyist was prepared by a person directly involved in the negotiations, lists exactly what the White House gave up, and what it got in return.

Re: Obama making Back Room Deal With Big Pharma???
I was under the impression that this was broadly known. And yes, it is a problem. But the problem is that corporations are so powerful today that not even our government can take them on without other corporate allies. This if the government and pharma versus the insurance companies. If this country had a pair we'd nationalize it and be done.

1. Oppose importation
2. Oppose rebates in Medicare Part D
3. Oppose repeal of non-interference<<<<<
All these things will end up costing individuals more, so you decide. If you oppose importation, it costs more to buy the drugs in the US than Canada. If you don't let the gov't use its clout to negotiate lower drug prices, it costs more. So is it good or bad? If you have to pay more for your own drugs, it's not good.
We have been told that health care reform will save money but this backroom deal will have the opposite effect for individuals.

RALPH NADER: What is emerging here is what was being planned by the Obama White House all along, which is they would only—they would only demand legislation that was accepted by the big drug companies and the big health insurance companies.
You can see this emerging over the last few months. President Obama has met with the heads of the drug companies and the health insurance companies. Some executives have met with President Obama four to five times in the White House in the last few months. He has never met with the longtime leaders of the “Full Medicare for Everybody” movement, including Dr. Quentin Young, who is a close friend of his in Chicago; Dr. Sidney Wolfe, the head of the Health Research Group of Public Citizen; Rose Ann DeMoro, the leader of the fast-growing California Nurses Association—not once in the White House.
That’s all you need to know to realize that the deal that’s being cut here is from Obama to Senator Baucus, the Blue Dog senator from Montana, who is cutting a deal, largely in private, with right-wing Republican senators and getting it through the Senate and presenting Henry Waxman and John Dingle and others in the House with a fait accompli.

It's cynical politics, Obama style. Given what the Republicans are doing on their side, it's no surprise that Obama recognize he had no choice but to line up some allies he'd probably rather not have on his team. Also, the Pats do it sometimes, bring in someone who is unpopular, like Randy Moss, and turns him around.

Politics makes strange bedfellows. Doesn't he risk alienating those on the left who view Big Pharma in the same boat as Big insurance??
