Just watch it sometime. I don't need some article to tell me what I can see with my own two eyes, and hear with my own two ears.

i think State is pf13's son, or something...

this thread is laughable...

i lean left, and I love talk radio... heroes of his like Limbaugh and O'Reilly wouldn't last 10 minutes on the air with an informed, calm, collected pluralist ... Not without blowing a gasket and hijacking the radio show.

What a joke.

Right wing logic: when Bush gives in to a "liberal" special interest, he's not sticking to "conservative priniciples." When a "liberal administration" gives in to a conservative special interest (a corporation for cryin out loud), the special interest becomes "liberal." That's free market "magic" at it's finest.

The idea that on the one hand you recognize that corporations wield so much power and influence in our society, even over this administration, and on the other you call Obama a "socialist" is why right wing America is a laughing stock. I'd love to see you wet yourself if a real socialist ever got elected. But whatever, it's politically expedient and our education system has been ruined so people will fall for it, right?

Back to the topic at hand, I think it's fairly clear that if a liberal audience wanted to listen to loudmouths shouting a dumbed down version of their opinions at them on the radio, then progressive radio would be successful. But personally I'd rather listen to an informed discussion on something with actual information involved than some ranting looney calling Hillary Clinton a fat ass for an hour straight on my drive home to work. Most progressives I know feel the same way.

All you need to do is look at the difference in format between NPR and something like Jay Severin. It's not a left or right issue, listening to someone feed me their one sided opinion all day and hang up on anyone who challenges them is not that appealing to me or any progressive I know. I'd much rather, you know, actually learn something of substance. Righties eat that stuff up for some reason, but it's pretty clear after this past election that there is a large enough population of people to support that format if they actually liked it (look at the Daily Show, Bill Maher etc.). Personally I don't fear talk radio, but I do loathe it as a sad reflection of how dumb our national discourse is.

Now let's move on to discuss why the right hates Academia. I mean, I'll happily let them have the bullhorn of talk radio and we can keep the overwhelming majority of serious academics. I wonder which one reflects a deeper level of research and thought.....Goddamn "elitists" using their brains and such.....

Is this an argument against capitalism?

Newsflash: all corporations bet on who's going to win by donating more to the one they think will succeed. Just another wonderful gift from the free market to our bastion of democracy.

3. They intolerantly don't like the ideas expressed by talk radio, which threaten their hegemony they work so hard to inflict, starting with the young children in Kindergarten reading "Heather Has Two Mommies." Liberalism is a form of "soft" tyranny.

It's not enough they control the government bureaucracies, Hollywood, education, and the media. They want it all, like the immature children they are.

I hesitate to say the latter rather harsh conclusion if not for this fact: most liberals can't be bothered to have children. That would, after all, require putting someone else's needs ahead of their own.
State, what a joke! Lefties hate talk radio because it's dominated by conservatives and it is mostly very stupid. Hardline conservatives prefer to beat up on and shout down and demonize their debate opponents, ala the old Morton Downey Jr show. Lefties prefer intelligent radio, and it's not coming from the right.
