I actually believe that a public option will lead to a single payer system. I believe in time, the government plan will prove to be better. This will either force private insurers to lower costs, or drive them out of bizzzzz.

I actually believe that the only things that will change is that you will not be denied care because of pre-existing conditions, and you will never be dropped becaus eyou had acne and forgot to tell them. Insurance companies will only exist as supllimental. Every other nation on earth has BOTH universal coverage and private insurance. They just don't operate for profit, they make money by attracting more clients by providing better care.

We'll have lower quality doctors.
We'll have older, less equipment.
We'll have less creativity and less new procedures.
We'll have "affordability" choices to be made.

we already overpay for ALL that stuff. by 2X the rest of the world! we should have the #1 ranked system, but we are 39th according to the WHO (Not the band). Instead our INSURERS are showing 3X the profit...its not difficult to see that if A provides a service to B, and B pays C to pay A....what the flunk do we really need C for? Malpractice? Its gone under universal care...So what is left? YOU protecting massive corporate profits generated by NOT assisting your fellow americans with their medical bills?

We'll also have less availability, since less people will enter the medical field.

Not if we pay them well enough. Arguably, we're already facing problems with lower quality primary care physicians.

New for the sake of new is not always better. Many claims made by equipment manufacturers don't hold up in practice.

Oh really?? Show me one page out of the 1000 pages that talks about tort reform. If anything, it will further squeeze practitioners when they aren't allowed to perform a test that might show something because of costs....
Soon the best and brightest won't be going into medicine. Think about that when they put the anesthesia mask on you as you drift off to sleep in surgery....

Companies aren't going to develop new drugs, equipment, etc, if there's no money in it and if the government is keeping costs down there won't be any money in it.

A tremendous amount of drugs and equipment around the world is created here. "Cheap drugs" from abroad are usually exported from here then re-imported. Just wait until the biggest innovator in the world stops innovating.

IIRC it was around 10 or so years ago where Europe was considered the leader in pharmaceutical research and development. I'll try and dig up the source. It's not like things like this are fixed. And it would be arguably beneficial to get American drug companies out of the profit at all costs business to cut down on rushing harmful drugs to the market. Clearly the pharmaceutical industry won't disappear.
