Default Shame on You, Mr. President

As you all know, I am a big supporter of President Obama and think the world of him and most of his policies.

I have also not visited or posted on this Political Forum for over a month due to the plummeting level of discourse here.

However, I felt a need to weigh in on the injustice done by President Obama last night.

Very simply, if:

1) You admit that you are personally biased towards a friend of yours involved in a dispute

2) You admit you do not know the particulars of the dispute

3) You are the leader of a country where this issue is an extremely sensitive subject

Then, you do NOT weigh in with an opinion on the dispute. You simply SHUT THE HELL up about it until you have incontrovertable facts.

What Barack Obama did last night regarding the Professor Gates case is a disastrous injustice to both Sgt Crowley and to any and all minorities who in the future may have LEGITIMATE complaints against prejudicial police treatment.

I still support Barack Obama and pray for his success, but he fell several pegs in my personal estimation last night.

This warranted it's own thread?

Didn't fit into the threads already existing in this forum.

Hmmm ... those damn elitist moderators.

He's a brave man for addressing race in an environment where the cards are stacked firmly against him. He's absolutely right about the long and sordid history of police and racism, and it's appropriate that he address it lest he be accused of abandoning the people who voted for him. (Plus, it distracts us from the health care hysteria.) (Also, you're right, there's little quality in this forum other than PatsFanInVa.)

1) He admitted he did not know the facts of the case

2) He admitted he was biased because of his friendship to Professor Gates

It was immoral.

I'm not a moderator on this forum. If the mods of this forum want to merge this into another thread, fine.

I felt this was DIFFERENT from the other threads because it is coming from a SUPPORTER of President Obama and, therefore, the intention was different.

Not in Cambridge, Strudel. You know how the rest of the country calls MA the People's republic of Massachusetts? Well that's what we say about Cambridge. When it comes to ending racism that city was waaaaay ahead of the curve and Obama lived here. He should have known better.

I've lived in Cambridge, MA and Berkeley, CA. Cambridge is far, far less liberal than Berkeley, CA. Boston is ridiculously segregated, and I wouldn't live here if I was black.

And he's a jerk for saying the Police acted "stupidly" without knowing the facts of the case.

I have far more respect for shmessy, patters, & sdaniels724 after reading
some of their posts today.

Even Patters questioned Obama's comments on the Gates issue last night.

Nice to see that they think twice before they drink the coolaid.
