Aside from creating or saving a few research jobs, the administration's decision to federally fund embryonic stem cell research is, as we've noted, a bailout of bad science. It throws money at an avenue of research that time and adult stem cell progress have passed by.
The former director of the National Institutes of Health, once an enthusiast for embryonic stem cells, now says their future has "dimmed." So why is the administration bailing out research into such therapies while troubled states like California have committed billions?
Remember all the ballyhoo about ESC's, the billions spent, the promises of miracle cures? Thurns out they were wrong...and yet the billions keep flowing.
Another example of our efficent government where lawyers, scientific illerates spend our money to no good end.
Billions spent on obsolete research...

BS, from the same brilliant types of people saying there isn't a Peak Oil problem, that CO2 doesn't affect the atmosphere, and that the Star Wars missile system actually works.

Did you read the article?
Do you have an example of a crinical trial based on ESC's?

I did read the article, but I noticed at the end they do mention that recent breakthrough out of Japan.
So... I'm not sure what you're trying to prove here. From your comments in the first post, I'm not sure you understand the article.
That fed money is going towards stem cells, the future of medicine. I highly doubt they aren't going to use that money developing stem cell technology based on the Japanese method.

Actually the point of the article is that Embroynic Stem cells are obsolete. The research out of Japan are of Pluripotent stem cells, which of course are NOT ESC's.
Again why spend billions bailing out bad science when other avenues that are producing results are not funded?

Typical Republican bull****, deny a program money and then turn around and claim it doesn't work. I guess if you've decided that god is on your side, any amount of lies and deception is ok as long as it leads to the 'holy' result.

Ah yes ideology over science. BTW $$$ was never limited just the # of ESC lines was limited for use using Federal $$$ never applied to states like CA, NJ & CT or private funding for this sort of research. Typical uninformed lib...

Typical BS from agenda driven religious people. Why don't you admit that your interest in ESCR has less to do with science than it does with what your pastor says? Your only interest in ESCR is to see it stop because you believe that any use of ESCs promotes and increases abortions. You also believe that life begins at conception and refuse to acknowledge that there are a lot of people who don't agree with that. There are a lot of people who believe that abortions will happen at the same rate with or without ESCR, so what is the problem with using ESCs for research that many believe hold a lot of opportunity.
For every one of your business journal opinion pieces, it would be easy to provide dozens of scientific and mainstream articles showing the opposite POV. How do you think these projects get going? You think a group of radical feminists from Planned Parenthood put together a research request and pettition the government for money and then, because everyone at the NIH agrees with them, they get funding?
You ask for examples of clinical trials for ESC application, and there may not be any at this time. There are thousands of projects and research directions which have born no fruit, and many of them may never be useful, but, as you know, scientific inquiry is not dependent on a guaranty of results and useful applications. Your specific and repeated interest in ending abortion is noted. That's your right and I don't fault you for it. You have to be honest and admit that your religious or philosophical POV should not direct the course of research.
The ironic part of this argument is that you have a potential area of great discovery, and the rabid right wants to abort it.
This is the usual fringie tactic -- grab a seemingly airtight fact, say "yeah but" to all counterexamples as they come in, hang on to it and hammer it despite all points to the contrary, while openly admitting the entire argument is based for the benefit of unproven religious hypotheses.
Yes, the embryonic stem cell treatments are coming. You do not need to add an oncogene (carcinogen) to "retrogress" the embryonic cells to their (natural) embryonic state, as you do with adult cells. You do not need zillions of different types of cells to do the research that embryonic cells can do on their own. It's simply a superior research tool.
Ask yourself this: in the absence of a compelling argument to the contrary, why should we stand in the way of research?
This isn't a communist country, this is America. Fringies complain about censorship. This is censorship of research. Nobody gives a rats alele if your bitter blather doesn't appear for a day. Not so, a cure for Alzheimer's not being discovered.
So what's the compelling reason NOT to use embryonic stem cells? Because they come from aborted fetuses?
But abortion is a legal procedure.
I have an organ donor card. It doesn't mean people will have more auto accidents "just so they can get my liver."

IBD is driven by religion???
Wow, in the article they talked about results and people that had thought that ESC research was the way to go but had changed their mind due to scientific develoments that had made them irrelevant.
The only thing is that ESC developments can be patented, OTOH no one can parent something developed using your DNA perhaps the process can be licensed.
