A.G. Eric Holder: 'Gays' Protected, Ministers Not

Quote:
S. Attorney General Eric Holder says a homosexual activist who is attacked following a Christian minister's sermon about homosexuality would be protected by a proposed new federal law, but a minister attacked by a homosexual wouldn't be.

The revelations come from Holder's recent testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee, which was taking comments on the so-called "hate crimes" proposal. It also was the subject of discussion on talk radio icon Rush Limbaugh's show today.

"This is the question," Limbaugh said. "[Sen.] Jeff Sessions [R-Ala.] presents a hypothetical where a minister gives a sermon, quotes the Bible about homosexuality and is thereafter attacked … by a gay activist because of what the minister said about his religious beliefs and what Scripture says about homosexuality. Is the minister protected?"
No, said Holder.

"Well, the statute would not – would not necessarily cover that. We're talking about crimes that have a historic basis. Groups who have been targeted for violence as a result of the color of their skin, their sexual orientation, that is what this statute tends – is designed to cover. We don't have the indication that the attack was motivated by a person's desire to strike at somebody who was in one of these protected groups. That would not be covered by the statute," Holder stated.
It's UNBELIEVABLE. I'm speechless.

Of course, you can hear this arshole testimony.

Quote:
The recent hearing, featuring Holder as the principal witness, was more than two hours long and is posted online by the committee.

The intent of the bill may be good but the way they're doing it may leave many speechless. Are they still attaching this to a tourism bill? The problem with this bill is some people could be prosecuted twice for the same crime and/or act. It gives the feds the ability to prosecute someone who was found innocent in a state court or where perhaps they chose not to pursue it.

I've always been a proponent of tougher laws and tougher sentencing so to knock this bill would be hypocritical ... so I won't. I just think the double jeapordy thing may not be fair. Also ... a tourism bill? We need a law for bills being passed on their own merit ... laws and spending bills.

The saddest part about this bill is Obama will choose who can be protected under his laws. Is it nice?

Yeppers. Otherwise people are going to think you're just recasting every protection for various groups you hate, against your hatred, as an attack against you.

Of course, nobody will read your 30 threads a day, because for the most part, you don't.

i don't see it that way at all ... you're reading things into it.

So you think people have a right to publicly show hatred to others?
They call that sectarian violence in Iraq and other Middle East countries.
Did you read where some christians had acid thrown on them in Pakistan?
Happened because some Muslims were mad at 1 Christian guy on a tractor.
Sad that we need laws to promote common sense ... but hated is a disease that needs laws.

Some in this country still have passionate hatred of blacks, Jews, gays and perhaps Muslims might be added soon. The law(s) will push them underground a bit but something needs to be done to push back. i don't mind the bill, I just don't like that it has to be attached to another. Where is common sense in Congress ... don't they see the hate that outs there that if left to fester will bring this country down.
